Changing pitch of a track in Music Studio

Hello, this is likely a silly question but I can't find the answer online---I have a backing track that I need to lower the pitch a half-step or so, possibly more, I've found the box with the pitch slider, at the top it says "Half Step", but when I use the slider it gives me numerical info and I have no idea which number(s) would represent the half-steps (since they're not whole numbers but fractions following a decimal point).

Is there perhaps a key I should be tapping on the keyboard that would lower pitch, say a half-step per tap?

I have Music Studio 2013. It's a perfectly legitimate question - not silly at all.

If you push the slider all the way to the top (or bottom), it will stop at a value of twelve, which would be twelve semitones or one full octave. So, each "whole" number is one semitone (half step).

If you ask me, the slider seems to be a goofy, useless idea. It's almost impossible to dial up an exact value with any consistancy. Luckily, there are other ways to manipulate the values. If you highlight the value in the box, you can type in any value you wish. Even easier, simply clicking inside the value box so that the cursor is flashing, you can use the mouse wheel (if you have one) to dial up any value in increments of ten cents (1/10 of a semitone). BTW...using either of these methods, you'll have to click on another "box" somewhere in the window to enact the change and to actually hear the change in pitch.
