Could not connect to selected device

stligochu schrieb am 24.02.2020 um 07:21 Uhr

Hello,

I am using windows 10 to edit my miniDV Tapes from my Sony DCR HC40 Camcorder. I am usuing a Dazzle DVD Recorder HD Box to connect the camera to the laptop using an AV connector in the camera and a Composite Video in the Dazzle box. The Dazzle box is connected through a USB connector to the laptop.

When I click on Record Audio/Images/Video and then I select DV Camera, I get the error "Could not connect to selected device".

Please, any idea on how to fix it?

Thank you

Hi

. . . . Dazzle box is connected through a USB . . . . select DV Camera . . . .

For capturing from a USB capture device select Analog device and then select the USB device.

However this may not work with, I have a different Dazzle capture device and it is not recognised by any other video software, it is locked for use with Pinnacle software only.

For DV capture you would need a FireWire port on your laptop, connecting the camera via the iLink cable.

Thank you John. I tried the Analog option. It partially worked since I can see the video images in the desktop but it's in B&W and it does not allow me to record any image.

I would love to have a Fire Wire port since it was I used for years with my old laptop, but now I have a Lenovo Yoga Pro 2 and I don't have any extra slot to install a FireWire.

That is further then I got with my Dazzle unit.

A device such as the Terratec Grabby works with Movie Edit Pro, avoid the cheap USB video converters that rely on your sound card for capturing the audio, the syncing will be way out.

Hi John.

i found Terratec Grabby that is basically a cable with Composite and S Video connectors and Terratec G3 (USB Scart/Chinch, MAGIX). Would both work or should I go with Grabby?

Thank you again

Hi @stligochu

There are various firewire to USB adapters like this: https://www.miniinthebox.com/en/p/usb-to-firewire-ieee-1394-adapter_p4178728.html? available if you google, but whether or how these work, or if they only pass data one way I am not sure. They seem to be cheap enough so might be worth a try....

Hi

The Grabby and the G3 will both work with Movie Edit Pro - just ensure the 64 bit drivers are installed - they should be automatically.

Hi John,

sorry to bother you another time. I received the Grabby USB 2.0 for Windows, I downloaded the Magix Program and still I am not able to record.

I wanted to use it with my Magix programs and not with the specific for the Grabby and it's not recognizing the USB

Any tips?

It does exist any cable Firewire to Composite or S-Video?

johnebaker schrieb am 21.03.2020 um 17:39 Uhr

@stligochu

Hi

You need the 64 bit drivers from Terratec - download and install from here - right side of the page - Win 10 Treiber 64bit.

. . . . It does exist any cable Firewire to Composite or S-Video? . . . .

There are no true Firewire to USB video converters available - there are some devices which are Firewire to USB adapters however these will not work.

Firewire and USB communication protocols are incompatible, the adapters do not convert the data signals to/from the devices, they only adapt the connections.

I already downloaded the drivers and now I am able to see the videos but with no color, just B&W with some blurry color lines. It's maybe related with the tapes recorded in Pal.

Do this Grabby work with other Magix Video Programs?

johnebaker schrieb am 21.03.2020 um 19:53 Uhr

@stligochu

Hi

. . . . just B&W with some blurry color lines . . . .

The symptoms you are describing are what you get when you try to record NTSC format with PAL video as the source format and for PAL with NTSC.

. . . . Do this Grabby work with other Magix Video Programs? . . .

It will work with any video editing program that can record an analog source via a USB converter.

If the issue is due to PAL/NTSC then which ever program you use may have this issue.

Hi John,

I was able to start editing it, so THANK YOU!!. I forgot I had a camcorder with Pal system and it worked without any problem with the Magix Terratec program, but I am still having problemas with Magix Movie Pro. I am doing what you told me on the first answer, to select Analog connection but the window where I should see the video is Blue. Any tip, please?
