directsound error: directsound create failed error in Music Maker 2013

I recently installed music maker 2013 and after using it only briefly I am now getting the constant error message "directsound error: directsound create failed". I have tried changing the Audio settings in program settings but with no success. Even when I try to change the audio playback to WAV driver I get an error message saying "can't create wave header" when I try and play anything.

I am running Windows 7 and am using a usb preamp.

I never had any issues like this with previous versions of Music Maker.

Can anyone help ?

Many thanks for any suggestions.

Start a new project, does the error happen then as well?

Make sure you have any updates for the sound drivers and DirectX which is what is controlling that directsound error.

I unfortunately do not have any USB pre-amps. The only thing I have that is USB and relates to audio is a headset microphone. The reason I mention this, is that to Windows, this USB microphone is treated as a second sound device, not a microphone. It is as if this headset is its own sound card. When I use it with any Magix software, I have to first make sure it is selected as the preferred device. Naturally, through Windows, it is not set up that way, so it is a manual change I must make.

I am assuming you have done that, because you state this has worked in previous Music Maker versions, and you would have to have done this for those versions as well.
