Higher than 192kbps audio for H264?

Hi,

Just switched to MEP Premium from another NLE. I'm not in front of my PC right now so can't give the exact version number, but it was downloaded direct from Magix on 2nd March 2018, along with all the patches. I'm running this on a Core M3 laptop (2nd gen with h264 and h265 QSV) - it runs surprisingly well on my underpowered machine!

I run a small YouTube channel focussed on musical instrument reviews and play-alongs so need good audio. I can see how to use the MainConcept encoder to get 384-512kbps AAC audio with an H264 mp4, but I suffer from the empty output file bug when using Intel QSV that I've seen mentioned elsewhere on these forums. I can use software, but that is understandably super slow!

If I use the "Default" encoder, the maximum audio bitrate seems to be 192kbps from the advanced menu.

Is there any way of increasing this limit on the "Default" encoder so I can take advantage of QSV hardware acceleration and get 384 or 512kbps audio on my H264 mp4 videos?

Thanks,

Jon

Hi

. . . . I run a small YouTube channel . . . the maximum audio bitrate seems to be 192kbps from the advanced menu

Open the Mixer (M key) and turn on the 5.1 surround sound option above the Master volume controls, cancel any meesage that appears about adjusting your sound card.

You should then be able to select Stereo or Surround sound and the audio bitrate in the Export advanced dialog.

If you have not seen them, the YT recommended settings are here

Hi John,

Thanks for the advice - I've tried switching to surround sound on the mixer as you suggested, but in the Default encoder advanced menu the stereo/surround options are greyed out and the maximum is still 192kbps.

In the manual it talks about MPEG-4 (Standard) encoder having up to 512kbps options - it's not clear whether this is the "Default" option in the program options or the MainConcept encoder as neither them are labelled "standard" on this option page.

I'm sure I'm just being a little dumb and missing something obvious!

Cheers,

Jon

It could be me because what I did this morning, I now cannot get it to repeat - fluke or what I do not know however I am doing more testing.

@johnebaker

If it's of any consolation, I tried your method soon after you'd posted it and it worked for me! Haven't had time/opportunity to re-test yet.

Maybe I couldn't get it to work as I was trying to do it on a project I'd already imported media to? I'll try with an empty project when I've next got a minute!
