@Erik-Arends

Hi Eric.

With these enquiries it is always useful to give your complete computer specs including operating system version along with the problem you have. So we need to know the processor, amount of ram, graphics card if any, disc space. Amount of disks in use. As much detail as you can provide.

One thing that I see in the file info you provide is the amount of reported physical ram in use. It doesn't seem enough. Virtual memory will not help and the total amount of virtual memory reported in the file is possibly larger than your C: drive could manage and may well be why your program is freezing.

Ray.

Okay, so i have a 500GB m2 System SSD and 2x 2TB for storage (also ssd)
The PC is an HP 800 G4 System with an Core i5 8500 CPU @ 3ghz, with 32G DDR4 RAM.
My 64bit Windows10 (updated until the latest build 2004) works fine.

I put the Virtual RAM on automatic and i will try again. Oh my videocard is an Nvidia GTX1050 (also updated the drivers today) I had no problems with other Magix software before, but as i uninstalled everything i cannot go back to before. What can we do about the RAM? I still have 190GB free on my system C disk, D=520GB free, E= 83GB free. so that should be enough right?

Thanks in advance, Erik

The virtual ram changed this for me:

When i now wait about 1.5 min. after the "Load project" screen is stuck after the start, i can proceed to other options and the program seems to work fine... but when i click "effects" for example the whole program freezes again and the proces is stuck again?!

Hi and welcome to the forum

Please do not post the full error logs the important line is

'Fout in module "d3d11.dll" (laadadres: 0x00007FFFF2CC0000) op adres 0x00007FFFF2D62433 (Uitzondering 0xc0000005 "ACCESS_VIOLATION")'

This would appear to be an issue with Direct3D runtime which may be related to -

. . . . my videocard is an Nvidia GTX1050 (also updated the drivers today) . . . .

MEP needs to use the Intel UHD 630 (iGPU), it cannot use the Nvidia graphics card

Check the following:

In the computer BIOS that the Intel GPU is enabled - you may need to consult the motherboard manual to find where this option is.

In the Windows Graphics setting set MEP (VideoDeluxe) to set use the Power saving iGPU as shown below

In MEP check in the Program settings, the options shown below are set as indicated.

Ensure you have a monitor plugged into the onboard video output for the iGPU to be utilised.

The following is taken from the file you just showed.

Total Virtual Memory: 131072 GB.

That is a mad amount of virtual memory to apply. Virtual memory should never total more than the amount of physical memory you have on your machine. It can be considerably less than the amount of ram on your system.

You have more than enough physical memory to use Video Deluxe 2019.

This in my setting for virtual memory.

Just over 4GB. That is just under the Windows recommended setting.

Hi Erik.

John Baker is much more experienced than me at reading these files and has most likely found the error and cause but if you still have problems after checking Johns' suggestions I would still check the virtual memory amount and amend it unless the file is giving a false reading of the amount in use.

Yes, i have 32GB RAM and now its managed by windows so its around 11GB and that should be fine.

About the graphics; you want me NOT to use my Nvidia 4GB card, but let MEP use the onboard UHD630 card.

  • I enabled this card again in my bios.
  • I downloaded the correct and latest drivers for it on the HP site.
  • I put the Windows settings on: Power Saving for the onboard card.
  • With a lot of patience i can come to the "display-option" tab in MEP and change it for compatibilymode to standard mode (Hardware Direct3D) but when i want to save it, is says; (translated from dutch to english) "the Hardwareacceleration is de-activated. Possible cause wrong drivers of the software cannot handle this. Install latest drivers..blah blah..."

The program does NOT run any better (or worse) then before and i still cannot use it proporly. Any idea to upgrade to the latest 2020 software of Magix? Can i still use my new 2019 key for this?

Hi Erik.

If you have the Intel UHD630 drivers (not the game drivers), then the latest driver version is 27.20.100.8336.

When you made the changes did you shut down Windows and restart it again using the restart option in Windows rather than using the power off option? Using restart is better as it reboots the system completely.

Windows should only be using up around 5.1GB of memory. Other background or startup applications may make that a bit higher. Without Video Deluxe running my system is currently reporting 6.1GBs of ram in use.

I had the 26.20.100.7757 drivers (from HP) but now i found your 27.20.100.8336 on the Intel site. This does not change a thing to my problem. And i have 32GB, windows uses around 8GB (in my case) so this cannot fix my problems. I guess its the videocard? Any other ideas? Or can i switch software (2019 to 2020) to try? Or do i need to buy another (AMD?) videocard for this?

P.S I did both a warm and a cold reboot; nothing changed.

Hi Erik.

I also notice a lot of background applications using up a lot of your system memory in your image of the task manager. Are these set to run on startup? Can you also tell us how much free drive space is on your C: drive and which drive you are using for your projects? You may now have to free up some of your PCs resources to get the program to run smoothly.

Hi Erik.

Unfortunately I don't think an AMD graphics card would be the best choice. Again, on the recommended specs list it states nvidia graphics cards. I don't think updating Video Deluxe in this instance will help. I think we need to get this version running first to find out exactly what problems there are. Then maybe an update may be useful.

correction on last post: 26.20.100.7757 drivers are the latest in my case. Intel confirms
@CubeAce My system is very fast and resources are well spread. A "simple" programm like MEP cannot be difficult for this setup. I used the 2017 version for 5 years on far worse hardware and never had a single problem.

Is there anyone else who can help me? Is there someone from Magix who can do a teamviewer session to take a look? And what about my question about the software upgrade?

Erik-Arends schrieb am 26.07.2020 um 19:35 Uhr

@CubeAce; okay; but the software is kind of running....its randsom stuck, and i can access certain functions with a lot of patience but stuff like inserting an text is not available at the moment; see what hapens when i click the "templates" tab after opening the program:

About the free disk space; this was in my 3rd post:  I still have 190GB free on my system C disk, D=520GB free, E= 83GB free. so that should be enough right?

@Erik-Arends

Hi

. . . . 32GB RAM and now its managed by windows so its around 11GB and that should be fine . . . .

As you say this is fine - it is best to leave memory management to Windows, setting it manually can cause issues if not correctly set.

. . . . windows uses around 8GB (in my case) so this cannot fix my problems . . . .

Do note that this is not just the amount of RAM Windows is using - it includes all non Windows background process and all running programs.

Check the PC does not have a load of non-essential HP software running in the background.

. . . . do i need to buy another (AMD?) videocard for this . . . .

This will not help, as I said previously MEP needs to use the Intel GPU, your PC has a very capable GPU in the processor - the UHD 630, the same as mine. Adding an AMD or Nvidia based graphics card is just throwing money away on a device that will not be used by MEP.

You can check out the system requirements here. You will notice there is no mention of AMD or Nvidia.

You may have noticed in my signature that I have a RTX 2060 installed - that is for use with Blender and is not utilised by MEP.

. . . .  I still have 190GB free on my system C disk, D=520GB free, E= 83GB free. so that should be enough right? . . . .

That depends on how you are using the 3 drive configuration - if C: is a 512GB drive (SSD ?) used for Windows and programs only then that should be OK - you should aim for the OS drive to be never more than about 75% full.

One question I should have asked earlier is which Antivirus/Firewall product are you using?

@CubeAce - setting Virtual memory size manually the recommended initial value should be 1.5x and maximum 3x system RAM - it is better to leave this to Windows as it will dynamically increase/decrease the Virtual RAM size as required.

. . . . Intel UHD630 drivers (not the game drivers) . . . .

Intel has only one flavour of driver for iGPUs, it is Nvidia that have 2 flavours of driver the 'gaming drivers' - not recommended for video editing - and 'studio drivers'.

Hi Erik.

I will try to answer all your questions and comments from your last three posts.

Movie Edit Pro is far from simple program. You may have a lot of 'spread resources' but they seem tied up in a lot of background applications.

Your CPU Intel GPU and ram amount seem fine and more than capable of running the program although again much more ram seems in use even without MEP (VD) running and that makes it unavailable to MEP.

There are no Magix staff on the forum that will intervene as far as I'm ware. At least I've never seen that happen. If you feel you need staff help you will have to deal with them you will need to contact Magix directly. In that case the best bet is to email them at the Magix sales department. I'm sure you still have your emails from your original purchase for an email address.

Looking at your templates folder image it makes me wonder if you downloaded the extra content packs that are needed. They are a separate download after the program is installed.

The Disk space on your C: and D: drives looks OK but the E: drive space looks a little tight but that depends on what each drive is being used for.

There could still be variables unaccounted for, such as.

Speeds and types of drives in use.

Where are the projects stored.

Where exported final files are written to.

I'm sorry if you are not finding me helpful but I'm trying to figure out the differences on my system to the relevant parts of your system to find out why your program is having difficulties, and the only difference I can find through the information you have provided so far is the amount of clutter you have in background running applications and the amount of used memory before you even open Video Deluxe. I don't know if any of the other applications I could see in the Task Manager is stopping Video Deluxe from fully loading.

All I do know is it should be able to run easily and isn't.

Ray.

[Edit] Sorry. John is correct about graphics cards.I was remembering the specs for VPX not VD.

While I do not know if MEP itself uses an additional graphics card I do think some of the additional plug-ins look like they make use of the 3D rendering on them. At least Task Manager is reporting usage somewhere while the program is running.

Does that mean it worked before the 'clean'?

@CubeAce @johnebaker @Erik-Arends

It sounds like Erik had MEP2017 installed then bought 2019 (recently?) and uninstalled 2017 then installed 2019.

I had no problems with other Magix software before, but as i uninstalled everything i cannot go back to before.

Erik - you did not need to uninstall 2017 first but I think that version was the first to be over written by subsequent versions. If you bought 2019 within the last year you should be within the 1 year update service so if you went to the top Help menu and chose update on line you should be able to download MEP2020 for no extra cost - but as Ray says this probably will not solve your problem as there seems to be an issue with your PC's setup.

It seems to be a graphics system problem - have you tried doing a clean install of the drivers for both GPUs? you may need to use one of the driver uninstaller utilities for this ie DDU from Wagnard Soft.

Hi Guys. Let me start by saying that all of your comments are usefull and its very nice to have this kind of help; thanks for that!

What i meant with "clean" installation is a scrub of the old software by deleting every Magix folder from the system and also from the registry. and also scrubbed the drivers (in safemode) and re-installing the latest as described.

I also changed the system folders in program-settings tab "folders" to: [C:\Video deluxe] but the programm is still unstable. The system load (both ram and CPU) are less then 15% when i ONLY use PEM. All other programs or tasks are closed. so system performance cannot be the problem. I think that VideoDeluxe and I are no longer friends and i should search for another simple video editing software.

Thanks anyway and i think we can close this ticket for now.

Kind regards, Erik

@Erik-Arends

Hi

. . . . I also changed the system folders in program-settings tab "folders" to: [C:\Video deluxe] but the programm is still unstable. . . . .

Do you mean the settings circled below were set so that your projects folders and the other folders were changed to C:\VideoDeluxe.

Did you set the security permissions on C:\VideoDeluxe to correctly?

If not, that is a potential cause of the issues you are having and also may result in subsequent loss of all the files etc in that folder.

The Videodeluxe working folders must be located inside the 'Documents' folder, a protected folder which is not touched by any Windows updates/upgrades.

In the example above my documents folder is the entire W: drive - changing the location of which can be easily done in Windows without any hacks.

Did you install the program in its default location - ie C:\Program Files\MAGIX\Movie Edit Pro Premium? If not where was it installed?
