How to use multiple USB Microphones simultaneously?
Hi, There are analog mixers that will produce a USB output but they need analog microphones. I know of no mixers that will take multiple USB microphones and mix them into a stereo or even a 2 channel mono USB output. If anyone has ever heard of such a mixer I would love to hear about it. Wouldn't it be easier to use something like the Zoom H1 at the low end or the H4 or H6 at the higher end to record the Marimba in stereo and output that as a file to Samplitude? All of the Zoom products have offset stereo microphones and provide USB outputs for either MP3 or WAV files. Tascam, Roland, and Yamaha also make similar recorders. You did not mention the model of your USB microphones but unless they are studio quality, I think the Zoom approach may be more viable and economical for you. George

How do i stop magix from automatically opening upon startup?
Hi, You just need to use Windows startup manager to disable it or something like Iolo System Mechanic or any of the other applications out there that help you configure what applications start when you reboot your system. This is not a function of Music Maker, it is a operating system function. Music Maker Jam crashes when trying to record
Hi, Some basic computer specs would help a lot here. Things like RAM, CPU, etc. could hold the clue as to why the application crashes. For the most part, my experience is that Magix applications are very stable and any time I have run in to crash problems, it was usually that I was trying to push my system beyond its capabilities. Also a little more detail about how and when the application crashes would be helpful. For example, does it crash when you start it, does it crash when you start recording, or does it crash after a few minutes of recording? George

Photo Retouching ..?
Hi Towab, I am not clear if you are asking your question about PhotoShop or Photo Manager. Photo Manager is really just a a photo organizer much like Google's Picassa. Yes they both have some photo editing capability, but both products have pretty limited enhancement tools. I personally do not like any of the Adobe products very much because they are not very intuitive to use (just my opinion). I would use Xara Photo and Graphic Designer to edit pretty much anything I want to in a still image. You did not mention what it is you actually want to do to retouch your photo but if you have and like using Photoshop, I would ask this question on the Adobe forum, not this one. You may want to consider downloading the free trial for the Xara product and see if it will do the edits that you hope to achieve. If you go this route and have any problems, please add more detail to this question and I would be happy to help you work through them. George

What is the best way to clean up "drop out lines" from a video footage ?
Hi Tom, You really need to just split the video track at the point where the distortion starts and then again where it ends. If for some reason you want to preserve the audio, in MEP2013 your will also first need to seperate the audio track from the video track. I am not sure why Magix chose to link the audio and video tracks together in this version but they did. Once you have separated the audio from the video if you decided to keep the audio from the distorted video segment, you will need to replace it with something or you will just have blank video. I often insert relavent photos or still clips if the audio quality on the bad video segment is good quality and relavent to the story I want to tell. George

Hi, Have you tried importing the backup copy of a previous version of the file that you have created? Unless you have turned this feature off, MEP usually creates regular backups of the files you are working on. George

How to get a sound to move from one speaker to the next and back again in a song?
Hi, What you are asking is basically panning the audio channels from left to right. The easist way I can think of to do this with Music Maker is to reproduce the track as two seperate mono tracks and use the volume curve functionality to change the volume of each mono track independantly. This will create the illusion of moving the sound from left to right. You need to learn how to do this and the MusicMaker manual if you search with the terms "volume curve" should tell you how to do this. There are some ways to automate this and a full blown DAW would make it easier but you can do it with MusicMaker. Your search depending on the version of MM that you have should look something like this. Personally, I would not use MM to do this, but as far as I can tell, it can be done. I would use a DAW to do it, or even just record the track and pan the mixer (either analog or digital) left and right to create the effect that I want. There are many very expericed MM users on this site and they may well have a better answer and shortcuts on how to use MM to do this. I have spent many years recording and producing audio and I tend to lean towards the most efficient and effective approach and that often involves other tools for specific tasks. I can see Bruce Dickenson singing lyrics to this song and Nicko McBrain pounding out drums, and even Steve Harris adding that typical Iron Maiden bass. This is not really a heavy song but just the sort of ballad hard rock song that would suit them perfectly. George

Juan, I love the mix between traditional and rock. I also really love the vocals and the harmonies that you have placed in this song. But most of all, I love the flow of the song. Being blamed for stealing Magix Copyrights?
He can't claim copright to Magix samples unless Magix has given him permission to own that copyright wich I seriously doubt they would ever do. So basically he is making a claim on rights that he likely does not have. I would ask him to produce the documents that says that Magix has given him the rights to exclusively use that material and see if he can produce them. I seriously doubt that he can produce such a document. I have no idea why this person would be such a jerk about this, especially if you are not using it for commercial purposes. My thought is that he is just being a "dick head". I understand that you are worried about the status of your youtube account, but if it were me, I would fight him to the end, and you will likely win. If you are honsestly working within the Magix license, Magix should also go to bat for you to clear this up. George ps. I am not a copyright lawyer, but I bet if you consulted one they would give you a similar answer.

Hi, This happens a lot with youtube. Their copyright search engine flags all kinds of things that are flat out wrong. I have probably had 20 or 30 copyright hits on music that I had a valid commercial license to use in my videos and when I dispute the claim I offer to send a copy of that license to whomever would like to see it. Usually the claim is withdrawn. I once got a hit from some singer who had added lyrics to royalty free music and was claiming copyright on the whole piece. In fact I have a license to that same music (minus his lyrics), disputed the claim and I think when he realized that he was claiming copyright on music that is licensed to others, he withdrew the claim. how do I use green screen?
Hi, If you follow John's advice, you should be able to minimize the "shimmering". Otherwise you are absolutely correct, if the green screen is not either properly stretched or the lighting is off, it is hard to get rid of the shimmering completely. Sometimes you can further reduce it by adjusting the video levels of each track or even adjusting the color a bit. Unless you decide to re-shoot the green screen, it will be difficult to get rid of it completely. George

@John Hi John, Spectral cleaning can be used for longer segments, it is just very time consuming and "fussy" to get it done. It is usually easier and faster to use the audacitiy noise removal function because you can call pretty much anything you want "noise" and it does a pretty decent but not perfect job. So for clients with extreme background "noise or other audio" I use both to minimize it. Never can get rid of it completely, but most clients are happy with the massive reduction of the unwanted sound. It really is all about how much time you want to spend doing it, and in my case how much time the client want to pay for to get it done. The iZotope RX Advanced product is excellent, but at almost $1200 a little rich for my business. I do mostly consumer, and low to mid range corporate videos and the budgets just don't allow for some of the higher end tools. George

how do I use green screen?
Hi, You did not say which application you are using so I am going to assume that it is Movie Edit Po. For the clip that was shot with a green screen background, place the clip in the time line, select the clip, then go to "Effects" then "Video Effects" then "Chroma Key". Choose the color green and the background should dissapear. You may need to adjust threshold and fading range to get the look that you want. Next, choose the new background that you want and drop it on the track below the green screen track. That should take care of it. You may need to adjust the video levels on each track to achieve the balance you want, but this should get you pretty close to what you want to do. If I have missed something, add comments to your original post and I will dig deeper if needed. George

Hi, To add to John's comments, the version I have of video sound cleaning lab used to have one very powerful feature which I understand has since been removed from the product. That feature was "spectral cleaning" Spectral cleaning allows you to have very precise control over the frequencies that you removed or reduced over the entire audio spectrum. I have no idea why Magix removed it. Without this feature, you might as well just download and use "Audacity" which is a free product, has lots of plug-ins and far more capabilities than most audio editors. It is a little more complicated to use, but once you get used to it, you can achieve pretty amazing results. I usually use audacity for any audio cleaning that needs to be done, and only go back to my old version of Video Sound Cleaning Lab if I need to use spectral cleaning. George

Some of my MPEG-2 videos contain background music that makes the audio hard to hear. Will the Magix Video Sound Cleaning Lab 2014 be able to reduce the music volume and allow audio to be heard better?
Hi, For the most part I agree with what John C.B. says, and you can never totally eliminate something like background music from a audio track that was already mixed in the camera. You can use a parametric equalizer to remove some of the music if what you really want to keep is someone's voice, but if you are hoping to keep ambient sound that moves into the "music" frequencies, even the equalizer will not do it. If you were originally narrating the video, then you could re-record the narration on a different audio track, and some background ambience such as crowd noise or any other form of ambient sounds, then insert your own audio track if desired, and just mute the original audio before export. Using an external mixing desk with Music Maker?
Hi, I agree, nice mixer you have. The only challenge I see is if you want to record different instruments independantly will be timing (synch). If all tracks are recorded simulaneously, it should work fine. For single instruments, you could try using a click track to count in the first instrument, then listen to the first tack to count in subsequent instruments. Easist way to do this would be to have the drummer count the first track in eithe with sticks if the kit is being recorded via a michrophone, or count in with cowbell or snare if it is electronic. You could also just record only a click track on one of the tracks in MM and monitor the audio from MM for that track wile recording the others. Since the Mixer USB outputs only one stereo track these are the only two ways I can think of to do this using a standalone stereo mixer. For recording individual instruments, I use a standalone recording studio that feeds each track to an optical disc drive using a click on one of my 16 audio tracks which allows all instruments to be counted in and even keep time throught out the song. I then export each track as a .MP3 file and bring the files in to Music Maker where I can now mix, master, add effect, etc. Good Luck George

To the development staff at Magix.... when will you be adding external hardware controller compatibility to Magix Music Maker?
Hi Tim, I agree with John C.B. on the product selection. Music Maker is really a consumer product and not geared toward serious professional recording and mix down. The samplitude pro product is far more suited to that type of project. Having said this, it is also important to understand that while I love and own many Zoom products, Zoom is not at the high end of the recording market. I would consider them more of a proam product than a flat out pro product. Music Maker is more at the amateur end, and Samplitude pro more at the pro end, and even though Samplitued has many of the features of a full blown daw, I would do a free trial on the Samplitude Pro product and if they do not work for you, then look at Ableton, Logix Pro X, Avid Pro Tools, Sony Acid Pro, and Cubase. I really like the samplitude product because it does most of what I need, but you always get what you pay for. Good Luck, George

Can I record 2 cams at the same time?
Hi glenn2, I would like a little more information about exactly what you are trying to do. Carl gave a great answer but he had to assume he understood what you are really asking. I could make a different assumption and tell you that you could edit as many camera angles as you wanted (based on the number of available tracks) as long as you could place the tracks in such a way as to have them all be in synch. While Multicam editing is the easiest and simplest way to deal with multiple camera angles of the same event, it is not the only way. It is possible to edit 2, 4, 8 or more video angles provided all cameras are running at the same time and can be synchronized on a track by track basis. Having said this, consumer level programs present a big challenge in synchronization. Magix Multicam has taken this to a higher level by allowing up to 4 cameras in the "Plus" or "Premium" versions. Professional based editors have some more flexibility, through the use of time code and TBCs so it really depends on what you are trying to do. So for example, if you filmed a scene with say people walking on the beach and you wanted to insert a scene of a pelican flying over them that was not actually in the original scene, that would be very different than if you had one camera filming the people walking, and another filming the pelican flying overhead. The way you would edit these two examples are totally different, so really the answer to your current question is "yes and no". A little more detail on what you actually want to accomplish would likely help you get a more concrete answer to your question. George

MEP 2015 Plus - Is there a way to move track contents less than one frame?
Hi, I am not sure how Serif is doing this, you can't move video by less than a frame because a frame is the smallest particle of the video stream. Maybe they get you to change the frame rate of the video clip which would create a smaller frame in terms of the time it is on the screen, but pretty much all NLEs are frame based. In the old tape days, you could just cut out a partial frame, but then you would need to use TBC to not loose video sync. Audio is a different story because audio is based on a sample which is the smallest increment that you can edit audio. George

Help! How can you fine adjust audio without it snapping into (the wrong) place? Movie Edit Pro 2015 Premium
Hi, Movie Edit Pro is a frame based application as opposed to time based, so the closest you are going to get is 1 frame. When I need more precision than that I use audacity as it is time based. It is a pain, but that is pretty much how it works. Remember MEP is really a video editor with some audio capabilities but synchronization is dependant on frames. There are some time based video editors out there but they are very expensive copared to MEP. You can change the tempo of the audio track to get it to lign up better, but that is essentially just changing the speed you can do this without changing pitch but if you want to preserve the tempo and the pithc for audio, I would use audacity, you can insert the right amount of "silence" into the audio track to get it to line up with the video. Time consuming, yes but also possible. George
