just purchased Movie Edit Pro 2015 and dissapointed to find that videos from my NextBase carcam play fine in Windows Media Player it is too "jerky" to be of any use in Magix. The frame rate is only 15fps. Have I omitted to adjust something in magix please
Hi, Have you tried to preview render your video clips? You do this by going to "Edit" and then "Start Preview Rendering". See below. George

What's the best format for export movie audio for editing in other audio optimizing programs?
Hi, Good catch John C.B I guess I was not really thinking because I know that most external audio editors add usually silence at the beginning of the audio clip. I mostly use audacity, and know the duration of that silence so I just zoom in and remove it before I export. My experience with editing audio using one of the Magix external audio products created the same no noticeable change because I ususally only use them for sound tracks, and not voice so it is pretty simple to do frame based editing and the wave form to sync the music with the video. Not so much with voice if there is on camera narration or vocals happening. My test used ACL with a person playing guitar, and I could not notice a difference between the notes that were being played and the audio sync in that example. Unfortunately looking at how audio is synchronized from a person playing an instument versus someone speaking or singing is very different. For more complex work, I usually just use products that record time code, and use that to sync up all of the tracks. Not something that is usually found on consumer type products. Time code is another whole topic, so I will just leave it at that. George ps. your MP3 file will be much more compressed than a WAV file, so you could be loosing some sync due to the compression.

@emmrecs, I disagree with your comment, I just created a video using the "snow" effect and stretched out to 3 minutes. The speed does not change at all in MEP MX Premium. All I did was grab the left side of the effect after ungrouping it out to the 3 minute point, and there was no change in speed at all, it just kept looping every 5 seconds. I could post a youtube video to show this. George

How do I sync audio and video when making a music video
Hi, Just a thought, but why not just split the video tack only and rather than delete it, just drop the video level down to zero. You must have something set so that the position of the video segment either goes to zero on the time line or somehow the video track is getting moved. If you are removing segements of the video and do not want to affect the audio, then the tracks should not be grouped. If you could do a video screen capture of a short segment of what you are doing and post it on youtube or vimeo, that would be helpful. George

Hi Michael, If I understand you correctly you are using one of the "canned" effects which happens to be fireworks. Not sure which version you are using but I tried it with Movie Edit Pro MX Premium. I did not have a fireworks effect so I tried it with a "Snow" effect, and there is no difference in the speed of the effect once it is ungrouped from the video object and stretched. These effect files last about 5 seconds and then they repeat so that may be what you are noticing. It may help to mention which version of MEP you are using and others who have experience with that version may know of some quirks or fixes. I also can't see any reason to use key frames for this type of effect. George

What's the best format for export movie audio for editing in other audio optimizing programs?
Hi, Another thought is why not export your video as something like .avi, import the video file into Audio and Music Lab using "Load Video Sound" make your adjustments, then export it in the same format using the original export audio settings only export it under a different name in case you want to go back. That way you won't have to worry about synch because the video will now contain the altered audio track. I cannot be 100% certain that this functionality is available in Audio and Music Lab 2014 but I would be surprised if it is not. George

Hi, Technically, that depends. PhotoStory is a consumer product and the end user license prohibits commercial use of the effects, transitions... of the product for commercial use. The end user license agreement (EULA) will dictate the terms of use. I know this is a pain and a little confusing to most people, but I would consult a copyright attorney if you expect to make a significant amount of money from the work you have created. Are you likely to get sued for using it, probably not unless you make millions and the Magix attorneys decide to come after you. This is a problem with pretty much all consumer products. Professional products cost a lot more, but their licences offer a lot more. Would I worry about it (and this is just a personal opinion and not legal advice). Answer I would not. You need to decide and perhaps talk to an attorney to make your decision. George

How to Convert a mono track to stereo?
Hi, You can buy effects processors that can simulate stereo for mono tracks, but the ones that actually do a good job are very expensive (thousands of dollars) and are mostly used by recording studios. Some electric guitars and bass guitars have a stereo output but that means putting them through two amplifiers, and either using a michrophone on each one or taking a line out from each to your mixer/recording device. If you are recording with a microphone, either use two and set them about center stage angled left and right, or use a stereo microphone and record both signals on different tracks. You can also simulate a stereo sound by using eq, delay, flanger, chorus or any number of effects on the left and right channel, but it will never be true stereo. True stereo really needs to be recorded at the source. George

Can i use my music in a youtube video?
Hi, A practical answer is yes you can post them on YouTube, but you could also get a copyright hit which could mean that the copyright holder could Place ads on your material, or ask YouTube to block it completely. Either way, copyright hits are not something you want on YouTube because if you get enough of them, they close your account. Best to hold a valid license and if you get a hit, you dispute it. I have had many hits on YouTube, but I dispute them because I always hold a valid license and offer to send it to both YouTube, and the company claiming infringement. All hits that I have had have been withdrawn by the copyright holder. George

Blur in Video
Hey Anirban, There are some video editing apps and plug ins that allow you to slectively blurr portions of the video, but I really cannot find a way to do it with MEP MX Premium. If it understand it correctly, the intent is to blurr the car which is moving quickly and not the people which are moving slower. This is easy to do with photographs, but not so much with video. Blurring the entire scene is pretty easy with MEP, but selected areas a lot harder. You could use multiple overlays or tracks, use size and position to select certain part of the frame but aligning them would be a challenge to give it a smooth and consistent view. JMO George

Photostory 2014 Deluxe DVDMaker.dll
Hi, What do you mean when you say "I deleted 2010 and 2014"? Just deleting the application and assciated directories does not "uninstall" the application as John suggested. It just gets rid of the files in the application folder. It does not remove the registry files because they have no direct association with the application folder(s) unless you do a "uninstall" and not just delete. You also did not say if you ran the cleaning tool that John suggested. Did you run it? If you did not "unistall" the applications it will be much more difficult to recover your system to a point where the new version will install correctly. It can be done, but we need to better understand exactly what you did to remove the previous versions and how you went about it. George

Hi Maria, I concur with John C.B.'s response. Some cameras do allow you to shoot in 16:9 format but not many, especially older cameras. 4:3 is still pretty much the standard for still images. You could acquire photo editing sofware to automatically re-size your images, or you could just re-size them manually either way works equally well, annoying, but that is just the nature of the beast. Will titler pro 3 work with Magix Photostory 2013?
Hi, Titler Pro 3 is a NewBlueFX product, not a magix product. I do not actually use it, but if you can export the title as .MP4, or any other standard video format, there is no reason why you could not be able to drag the title into the timeline in PhotoStory. This question might better be asked of the people at NewBlueFX. My experience with NewBlueFX is that they are very responsive, so use their "contact" form and ask this question of them. George

why does the software crash? how can I fix it?
Hi, There are many reasons why the application may crash. It would be really helpful if you provided your computer specs. Available RAM, CPU speed and type, Disk space and fragmentation, applications that are running, and the version of MEP thay you are using all have a impact on why the application may crash. You have really provided none of this information. The best way to help us find a solution would be to provide this information. You can't really just say "why does the software crash" without giving more detail. I could give you a hundred reasons as to why it might crash, but if you provide the correct information, the reasons would be much more applicable to your situation. George

HDR (High Dynamic Range) Images
Hi, You know, I totally misunderstood what was meant by HDR. I thought it was trying to create a effect that was not actually present in the original image. After reading John Baker's comments on auto bracketing, I realized that I just did not really get the qustion. I use auto bracketing all the time, I just never associated it with the term HDR. Perhaps I am technically challenged and not up on the latest terminology. In the old film days, I used to do it manually, now with DSLRs you do it automatically based on camera settings. I agree with everything John says. I actually do go and change the setting to +2 stops if needed just to get the image right. Sorry if my comment caused any confusion, I just thought that the question was to create a effect after the image was taken. My bad. George

HDR (High Dynamic Range) Images
Hi, I am not sure that I see much value in this technique. You can use Photoshop or Xara to generate these effects from pretty much any properly exposed image. You can also generate them by just using the manual settings on any decent camera, so why bother with the multiple images? I do agree that if you want to create these surrealistic style of images, you really should be shooting in RAW format or both jpeg and RAW, that way you have the best of both worlds.Consumes more real estate on your SD card but at least you have the option of how you adjust the image. How do I combine two videos?
Hi darlincagas, I agree with Carl, not a lot to go on here. If you want to have two videos run side by side or top and bottom, how you achieve that is very different than using a multi cam effect where you switch from one video to the other. Very different techniques and approaches. Please provide more information on what you are trying to accompish and I am sure we will be able to help you. George

@John re "For 1 follow Georges suggestion re white swatches but place them on tracks below the video and adjust their size, position and colour balance to hide the exposed edges." You can't put the swatch on the track below the video. Here is a simple JPEG with a white background.
