4k Video File - Audio corrupts after 19min 56seconds, looses all audio

Hi Del.

Getting the correct frame rate possible has to do with how you initially set MEP up or changed it at some point.

Get to your movie settings and look at this.

Create a new frame table does help stop audio drift but should happen on importing the clip. The manual says it helps mainly with MP4.

Hello CubeAce,

Thanks for your input. I've updated my settings as you have yours, and things dont seem to be any better or worse at present, but I will keep an eye on it.

Regarding the FrameRate VPX is using, I think this is probably the root of the problem. Do you know how I can make VPX to correctly get the framerate from the video files?

Basically, VPX thinks all my 4k footage is filmed at 30FPS, whereas it is actually at 29.97. This has minimal impact on shorter video clips, however, much of my footage is >10 mins / file, so the audio and video are becomming unsynced gradually as the video plays, making it multiple seconds out of time, towards the end of a 10min video file.

The above screenshots are all from the same file!

Many thanks.

Del

Del escrito el 05.05.PM a las 16:25 horas

I've tried changing these settings both in an existing video project, and also creating an entirely new video project.

However, when VPX tries to import the video file I get this popup...

I think the root of the problem is that VPX is incorrectly interpreting the framerate of the 4k video file as 30FPS and not the correct value of 29.97FPS, which is having a knock-on effect to the remainder of the project, and also causing the audio sync issues.

I can provide a copy of a video file if that helps. NB they are pretty large.

Thanks Del

Also, I just wanted to add that the video files causing the problem are from a Sony XDCam PXW-X70, which is explicitly mentioned as a supported camera in the VPX features. It was the reason I upgraded the software from MEP to VPX.

Not sure that I can really contribute anything useful, but...!

In your post two above this one (which includes the screenshot with "Adjust/Do not adjust" options) have you clicked "Adjust". Does this have any effect on the problem?

You offered to post somewhere a copy of a video clip; perhaps that might be a good idea so other users can see what happens on their machines. Unfortunately, since you say the problem worsens over the length of the file, it might be necessary to somehow post quite a large file somewhere. Uploading and subsequent downloading might then be a problem but might be worth the effort!

Also, I don't think we've confirmed anywhere in this thread that VPX is definitely set to 48kHZ Sample Rate. I'm guessing it is, but such confirmation would rule out another possible variable.

Hi Del.

I think it's important to create your own project with the correct frame rate and video size before importing any clips as in my earlier image.

Don't just use the 'Create New Project' without checking all the settings. Don't let the program make a decision for you.

The bit you outlined in blue on your file info is an approximation of the frame speed. I get the same info in my files.

I won't be able to help if you do upload a file for here as I am on MEP Pro Premium although I could try.

Ray.

Hello again, thanks for your continued input.

The problem still persists unfortunately.

In answer to your questions:

"In your post two above this one (which includes the screenshot with "Adjust/Do not adjust" options) have you clicked "Adjust". Does this have any effect on the problem?"

Yes I have done both, and it doesn't seem to make a difference. Also, as the issue is also apparent in the source video monitor, before the video is imported into the actual timeline of my project, it would appear that the issue is that VPX is not viewing the video file properly.

"Also, I don't think we've confirmed anywhere in this thread that VPX is definitely set to 48kHZ Sample Rate. I'm guessing it is, but such confirmation would rule out another possible variable."

Yes I can also confirm that the audio sample rate is at 48kHz. I have done this manually when creating the project, and also automatically when VPX imports the video file.

I also have a fully paid for version of Movie Edit Pro Premium (MEPP) and when I try to import one of the XDCam files, i just get a popup saying that that format is only available in Video Pro X.

MEPP was my go-to video editing package before upgrading to VPX. I only upgraded as VPX has the 4k XDCam capability.

Kindest Regards,

Del

This sucks. I feel your frustration.

Are there variations of your camera? I'm wondering if there are variants for different parts of the world or updated models.

Looking at Sony's page for your camera it appears this is an ongoing upgraded camera.

https://pro.sony/en_GB/products/handheld-camcorders/pxw-x70

I'm beginning to think you need to contact Magix. Point them to this thread. Maybe the program doesn't support all models. It would be wise to check.

Ray.

[Edit] Have you tried recording in a different format?

Hey CubeAce,

Thanks for your help.

Yeah i;ve tried a few settings. I've also updated the firmware on my PC and bought a brand new 32GB RAM just to solve this issue. And none have worked.

One thing that did work as I expected was that I changed the format on the camera from 60i to 50i. (This also changes the max framerate the camera outputs from 30fps to 25fps.)

The video the camera exported in 50i mode did import properly into VPX at 25fps.

When I changed it back to 60i, it broke and treats the video as 30fps instead of 29.97fps.

I am now pretty confident that the 60i format at 29.97fps, which VPX does/should support is where the bug is.

I have raised a formal support issue with Magix, and hope they can get back to me asap.

Thanks again for your help.

I'm just sorry that after all this we didn't resolve it.

Seems like a really decent camera as well. Much too complicated for me 😉.

I hope you get some sort of resolve. Please let us know how you get on.

If it turns out that the camera can't be supported have a look at Grass valley's Edius Pro 9. It's not cheap but purported to accept a lot of higher end cameras. Be warned, it may need extra hardware. If you do wonder about it (and do look at the costs) I can put you into contact with a serious user who would be glad to help.

I'm informed the function 'Create a new frame table' only really helps with MPEG-2 files.

Yes, it was conceived to deal with MPEG2 footage from early DVD Disc camcorders and I would definitely only use it straight after import as applying it once editing has been done can cause havoc with audio being truncated and cuts being displaced etc.

Hi Peter.

What could happen if it were applied twice? Say as set as a default for importing and then again using the 'Create a new frame table' in the options dialogue? Assuming that is even possible?
