Installed X2.5 upgrade and it won't work with my existing edit files

BSMan escrito el 23.07.AM a las 02:07 horas

I have Video Edit Pro X2 and was prompted to download and install the upgrade to X2.5. I did that and now Video pro X2.5 will not open the editing files I previously created. Can't find any of the videos used, etc., and ends up with nothing. I have not moved anything on my hard drive and the files should open up correctly.. These files were created with Video Pro X2. I just tried opening one of them with Video Pro X1.3 (which I still have on my computer) and it worked. I also just checked to see if I needed to enter the serial number, but it was already in the program.

This is extremely frustrating. If I had known this would happen I would never have done this upgrade.

Hi Bob.

I don't understand.

Video Pro X 2 was released in 2010. Is that that the version you are referring to? The last time I saw you post you were using Movie Edit Pro 2021. That program works with Windows 8.1 and Windows 10.

Video Pro X 2 was designed to work from Windows XP to Vista.

Normally I would always check the specifications for each release as hardware requirements can often change between release versions and supported formats have been known to change.

Ray.

Yes, I was using Video Pro X2 with Windows 10 and in fact made some very nice videos with it. In fact, here's the link to the Pine Barons God Bless America video I made in June this year for July 4:

Like I said, when I started Video Pro X2 a few days ago it said version 2.5 was available and asked me to download and install it, which I did. Now it won't start at all. So are you telling me that Video Pro is discontinued? And I do have both Movie Edit Pro 2021 as well as Movie Edit Pro Premium 2021 (which I purchased this year only because of the added functions and was disappointed that the add ons mostly didn't work), but, as I said, I have used Video Pro X2 successfully for a number of projects for the last year.

This is very confusing. I would suspect that the one of the recent Windows 10 automatic updates may have caused problems with Video Pro X2, but, as I said, I also have Video Pro X1.3 on my computer...and that started and seems to work with the files (such as the one for the video I provide the link for above).

Does this mean that I need to abandon Video Edit Pro and just use Movie Edit Pro 2021?

@BSMan

I think there is some level of confusion here!

As @CubeAce (Ray) says, VPX 2 was released more than 10 years ago and is highly likely to NOT run under Windows 10.

I honestly can't remember there being a VPX 1.3, version 1 is at least one full year older than version 2.

So, I wonder if you actually have VPX 12 (aka VPX 2021) and VPX 13 (aka VPX 2022)? Can you check under Help>About and tell us the exact version and build numbers you actually have? The latest version of VPX 13 (released earlier today) is 19.0.1.107.

And no, you certainly should not need to abandon Video Pro X.

Hi Bob.

I'm just amazed you got VPX 2 to work on a Windows 10 machine at all.

It is possible a Windows 10 update may have caused problems or it could have been the program update. Again I'm surprised you got a notification for an update.

The current version of VPX is now 13 but up till recently had quite a few bugs with VPX 12 being the most up to date stable version of it.

If you run Movie Edit Pro 2012 and it's stable then any version written for Windows 10 or 8.1 should work but increasingly changes are being made by Microsoft so it's hard to tell.

As I posted earlier, VPX 2 was written for Windows XP up to Vista, not Windows 8.1 and above. If your hardware was running it that would have been a bonus. It's possible the update changed some settings within VPX although your copy is earlier than anything I have used so don't know what that could be, or the program update included something that is now Window 10 incompatible. Too many variables to give you an accurate answer as to what went wrong.

Sorry.

Ray.

Jeff,

I looked at help for my VPX13 and found that the version is 19.0.1.98. (Yes, the title screen shows VPX13). No build was listed, although I looked at the help pretty thoroughly for it. When I started VPX13 it did let me know that an update to the version you mention was available, so I did not update before checking the current version I had. After getting that information I'm now doing the update as I write this.

I'm wondering why the numbering scheme was changed and there is/was a VPX2, yet the newer version was not numbered, say, VPX 3. Confusing, to say the least, although I realize that 13 is a higher number than 2. And I've now also removed VPX2 from my computer.

Also, I previously had Windows XP because there were too many reported problems with Vista and Windows 8. So when I updated I went directly to Windows 10.

Since Microsoft is about to release Windows 11 it would be appreciated if you would email registered users to let them know when it would be safe to upgrade to Windows 11 as far as avoiding any conflict with Magix software.

Did you and/or Ray get a chance to check out the video I provided a link to? Would appreciate any comments (both positive and negative and suggestions) you might have.

Bob

Hi Bob.

You would have only been offered VPX 13 if your previous version was VPX 12 so one bit of confusion cleared up.

VPX 13 is still quite buggy hence your possible problems. If you are still experiencing problems with your projects you should uninstall VPX 13 and go back to VPX 12 until all the major bugs are fixed. You should still be able to go back to the newer version at a later date.

This is mentioned in the 'Sticky' topics at the top of the forum page.

The topic in question can be found here.

You have a good group of fine vocalists 😀.

There is still some confusion here

There have been numbered versions of VPX for every year from 2 through to 13 - a new version every year.

Therefore as you say you have version 13 yet your previous version was 2 and are asking why the next version is not numbered 3 suggests, as @CubeAce has commented, that you were on version 12.

Given that you upgraded to Windows 10 from XP, what is your computer specification - see this topic for details required and please quote the processor and graphic card make/model in full.

I'm wondering about VPX13. Just tried using it and tried to export a file, but the actual export never started. The output window showing the progress never appeared. In checking the folder the new file was created in name only but with no contents. Tried the same thing with Magix Edit Pro Premium and the output file window appeared and showed progress (I didn't let it finish creating the output file, just wanted to see if the progress window would appear). Is this one of the bugs in VPX13? Maybe I should go back to VPX12?

Hi Bob.

Not necessarily.

You could have the program settings set up incorrectly. VPX 13 is different to VPX12 but I don't have a copy to show you and I don't know your computer components to tell you what should be showing up in the playback and export settings. Perhaps someone running VPX 13 can help with that.

Also on rare occasions it has been known for an information box such as the export progress box to appear behind the main program on the screen.

However, progress of the export can also be seen in the program icon in the Task bar of Windows if an export is occurring.

John & Ray,

Is there a way for me to download VPX12 at this point? I just see VPX listed as my most recent version (with a date in 2020), but I suspect that if I download that I will end up with the same VPX13 that I have right now. I'm thinking that it would probably be good for me to have both VPX12 and VPX13 right now since I notice some less than favorable comments about VPX13 that it may have been released prematurely.

@BSMan

Just to emphasise an important point from the thread that @CubeAce linked you to: in order to reinstall VPX 12 you must first uninstall VPX 13, you cannot have both on your computer simultaneously.

Hi Bob

As I see it, there are 2 problems here

  1. Loading VPX 2.5 project files into VPX13 (or 12) - I did not have VPX in the early days, however if VPX lead the changes Movie Edit Pro had, MEP is VPX's 'little brother', then the VPX project file format has had 3 changes that I suspect VPX 13 (or 12) may not support or be able to convert.

  2. The laptop specification is the bare minimum necessary for VPX12/13 to be able to run and may be able to get some hardware acceleration to help with preview playback and export. If you are editing FullHD (1920 x 1080 or higher resolution (2.7K or 4K) video then it may struggle.

A possible workable solution involves using the following settings:

  1. Use proxy files setting should be on - this is in the Project settings and will create lower resolution video files to reduce the load on the computer - they may take several minutes to create, fortunately having the 2 TB drive will help with the extra storage space needed.

  2. In VPX 13 the Program settings, Device Options tab, Import, Processing and Export options should all be set to Intel 4000 series - this should already be the case.

In VPX 12 Program settings, Import/Export tab the 2 hardware acceleration options should be checked.

  3. The lightning button bottom right of the preview (Program) monitor should be 'on' ie blue - if not click it to turn it on.
