MMMX: popping and stuttering wave files

MovieMusicFan escrito el 11.06.AM a las 10:42 horas

Hi again,

The newbie strikes again. It's probably a dumb question, but does anyone know why I get popping and stuttering in the playback of any wave files that I have made?

I used Vita to make some simple violin chords so that I can use them like a soundpool. When I use them, though, they sound awful. I exported the MIDI as a wave at the highest bit rate available (320 bps). I know that the loops you can get from Magix are at something like 1140 bps.

Since I can't export the MIDI to wave at anything better than 320 bps, is there any way to fix the stuttering and noise problem?

Thanks for any help that anyone can offer.

Hi

Some clarification is needed.

Which format are you exporting as wav, mp3, ogg, wma and what settings are you using?

What is the spec of your computer?

John

Hi

Step-by-step: 1/ I started in Vita. 2/ Did a simple violin chord (Am) as a MIDI file. 3/ Went back to MMMX and made sure that what I had just made was sitting as a sound object in the arranger. 4/ I went to up to File. 5/ Chose the drop down menu to export as WAVE file at the highest possible bit rate (320). 6/ Located the file in the MMMX file manager and loaded it back in as a new sound object. 7/ Played it to make sure it was okay but it sounded like it was being played on a broken radio from the 1920's (not what I wanted at all).

Not sure what exactly you need to know about my computer. It's a Toshiba laptop running Windows XP with everything up to date. The sound card could certainly be better (Conexant High Definition Audio), but I use it primarily for art programs, not music. That said, everything else sounds great on it. Just not anything that I make in Vita.

Does this help?

Thank you.

Once the information is converted to an audio file, the fact that it was created in the Vita MIDI Editor is irrelevent.

You didn't say, so are we to assume the files played just fine (as a MIDI file) before you exported it?

You may want to tell us which audio driver you're using in the Program Settings.

Most likely, you need to increase the value of the audio play-back buffer in the Program settings.

Sorry, I assumed it was obvious that it played fine as a MIDI.

I don't know if this will help or not, but I took a screen shot of my settings. What do you recommend?

Thanks!

Hi

If you have the following information about the laptop it may help:

Processor Type and speed

Amount of RAM (memory) installed.

Hard disc size and amount of free space.

Failing the above - what is the Toshiba laptop model no - it should be on the underside of the laptop

An image of the settings you are using for the file export will help because AFAICS there is no 320 setting for Wave file export (wav/adpcm), the only one I can find with this setting is for exporting as mp3 and that is 320 kbs.

Thanks

John

Hi

It's an older laptop (2006) with too much junk crammed into it, but here's the information you asked for:

Toshiba Satellite w/ Centrino Duo

Processor:  Intel CPU T2300 @ 1.66GHz       Version: x86 Family 6 Model 14 Stepping 8
Speed: 1666 MHz       Memory (RAM): 1GB     Total disc space: 92.91 GB    Used: 79.16   Free: 13.74

The problem doesn't seem to be related to BPM since I made the sound object at 80 BPM and need to use it at 80 BPM. I made sure that it all matches. It sounds, though, like trying to use a 90 BPM Ambient clip at 135 BPM Techno Trance speed.

Thanks again for trying to help sort this out.

MMF - Don't confuse (k)bps (kilo-bits per second = bitrate) with BPM (beats per minute = tempo).  I don't know if that's what you're doing. but you're confusing the issue.

John is right, if you are creating audio files at 320 kbps, you are creating MP3's, not wav files.

For a computer system that may be borderline for running these applications, you may need to bump up the Multi-track Audio Buffer shown in your screen shot.  The next step up would be a value of 16384.  This should allow smoother playback of the audio files in your arrangement.

Hi guys,

I went back and triple checked what  had done and I wrote it down wrong. I was doing a lot of other things at the same time, recording some MP3s and so on, so I got confused.  I saved at 1440 in Wave format. The mp3s are totally unrelated to this issue.

I don't know what happened, but I went and made copies of all the loops that I had made, removed the originals and reinstalled everything. MMMX, all my soundpools... everything. Then I put the originals of my violin loops back in. Now it's working fine and they sound great.

I'm thinking that I must have had a faulty load of my original program or something. I've made several loops since and they all work terrific.

I apologize for all the effort everyone went to in trying to help me out with what seems to have been a technical hitch and not anything that I was doing wrong. Huge thanks to johnebaker and Procyon. You're both awesome.  *two big thumbs up*
