Video clip has no sound when played on time line.

Hello Everyone!!

Back to the forum for some help.

I have upgraded to MEP 17 since my last post.

Here s my (new) problem:

I have filmed some clips with an affordable action camera (Jeemak - a Gopro clone).

When I drop any of the file onto the time line, there is no sound on playback while there is audio when played with Widow Media player

the file is 1920x1080 @ 60fps.

here is more data about one of these file.

Hi.

You say you are now running "MEP 17"; however, that does not really tell us exactly which version and variant you have. Can you check under Help>About and tell us what it says about the version of MEP you have?

However, I think the answer to your problem lies in the single line of your MediaInfo data which says "(Audio) Sampling Rate 8000Hz" = 8kHz. MEP will expect at least 32kHz, preferably 48kHz, possibly 44.1kHz. 8kHz is a very unusual and very low sampling rate, especially for video. Because it will not have recorded any sounds above 4kHz frequency you will have NO sounds that the human ear will expect to hear and which give real clarity to the overall sound.

If you can find a convertor that will enable you to convert the audio from 8kHz to 48kHz sampling frequency, you will end up with a file that potentially includes a lot of "noise", but one that MEP should play without problem.

Hi

From the MediaInfo data I suspect the problem is the camera:-

  1. audio bitrate and sampling frequency are non standard and very low

  2. Bitrate mode is variable

  3. audio channels are wrong you should have at least 2 channels and they should be Front L R

Compare the above to the MediaInfo data of my Sony sportscam mp4 audio:-

Audio
ID                                       : 2
Format                                   : AAC

Does importing video from a good quality HD camera work ?

. . . . upgraded to MEP 17 . . . .

If you mean MEP 17 v10.x.xx.x then this is not compatible with Windows 10 and may have several issues.

Thank you Jeff!!

I use the following version: 17.0.2.159. I had no problem since installing.

Strangely, Windows media player plays all files without a glitch.

Hi.

17.0.2.159 is the latest version of MEP so thank you for that additional information.

Unfortunately, the fact that WMP can play your file has no bearing at all upon whether MEP can, or cannot do the same! As both John and I have pointed out to you, the format of the file your camera produces is very unusual; MEP expects to be handling files that are more "standard".

So after few attempts and tweaks I managed to convert the video clips into video files with sound using TEncoder Video Converter (a multithreaded video encoder that uses Mencoder and FFMpeg).

Thank you for your help everyone!!
