Can I achieve the "spinning newspaper effect" in MEP plus?

siegbrunn Posté à 16/06/2018 18:35

Using Movie Edit Pro Plus 2017 v.16.0.4.119 on Win10 64b

I'm wondering if there is a way to duplicate the famous "spinning newspaper" effect in MEP plus. I want to use a poster at the beginning of a short video and have it spinning and then come to a stop. It doesn't have to be at supersonic speeds, as one sees sometimes in old films, but a decided "spin" should be there at the beginning, not just a slow rotation.

Thanks in advance for suggestions.

Hi Siegbrunn

This is possible using keyframes and Effects, View/animation, Size/position and Rotation to control the size and rotation as shown below

Note: I have used only 2 keyframes for size/position and rotation and the value 1080 I used for the rotation at the 2 sec keyframe gives 3 revolutions in 2 secs. as below, the size starts at 480 x 270 pixels wide rising to 1920 x 1080 at the 2 secs keyframe

WOW! that is great! It's time to learn more of what MEP can do, I see! It may take a bit of time, but if I have trouble I'll post. THANK You!!!!

Whoopeeeee! I figured out how to set the

  • keyframes (only 2) - one at 00.00 and one at 2 seconds.
  • then set the smaller size at 0 seconds and full size at two seconds
  • then 0 turns at 0.00 seconds and 2160 (I doubled yours just to see how it looked) at 2 seconds and VOILA!

    BTW in the effects list under the rotation window I have only "anti-flicker" (came automatically) and "image size/position". What I see in your pic isn't there, for which I'm grateful actually, I was a little nervous about duplicating that.

Hi Siegbrunn

. . . . in the effects list under the rotation window I have only "anti-flicker" (came automatically) and "image size/position". What I see in your pic isn't there, . . . .

I assume you are referring to the expanded effects to the left and on the keyframe timeline - if you want to see this click the small triangle pointing to the right just in front of Image size/position - if you look at your image it is pointing to the right, in my image it is pointing down.

When you expand the effects this shows you individual parameters which are part of the effect.

Your first go with keyframes is impressive. 👍

Very true - plus a couple of speech bubbles with Pow! and Zap! to complete - they are in MEP 🙃😂

I love it! And the "extras" showed up too as I looked just now. I feel like a genius. And yes wongck, there will be music too! When I'm finished with this masterpiece it'll go on YT (as advertising for this show from our singers) and I'll give y'all the link. It may be corny, but it's right for the audience I making it for.

@wongck

OK guys, here it is! It actually didn't take very long to mix down and export. The problem came when it was finished and weighed well over a 1GB for a 5 minute film. Using handbrake I tried to bring the size down, which worked (to 150MB) but left it out of sync. After two tries I resynced in MEP and expported again at "Web MP4 25fps" and it worked fine without getting bigger.
Anyway, it's not perfect (I learned a lot making this) but each time should be better.

Hi Siegbrunn

I second wongck's comment, and the falling stars in between performances is a great way of introducing the artists.

@johnebaker

Something else I learned - BTW - the stars actually originally went UP, but that made me seasick and I was able (with the mini tutorial from John) able to turn that clip upside-down. Cool, huh? The stars BTW came from a free effect on YouTube, so if that was the effect you meant wongck , the link is here: http://tinyurl.com/yb5vseh9

Thank you both for the help and the moral support :)
