Sarà il cuore che morde,
Forse la luna evanescente
A far piangere stanotte le mie corde
In questo blues struggente.
Sarà il tempo, la nebbia, la pioggia,
O il salmastro dell’acqua marina
Di questa laguna di Chioggia,
Ma suonerò il mio blues fino a domattina.

Sarà la notte, quando s’alza la bruma,
O le luci delle barche, lucciole irreali
Che colmano il cuore di malinconia
Ispirandomi questo blues struggente,
Oppure i suoni ovattati,
Che viaggiano sul pelo dell’acqua marina
Di questa laguna di Chioggia,
Ma suonerò il mio blues fino a domattina.

In this poignant blues.
Will the weather, fog, rain,
Marine or brackish water
Of this lagoon of Chioggia,
But I will play my blues till morning.

Or the lights of the boats, fireflies unreal
That fill the heart of gloom

Or muffled sounds,
Traveling on the surface of sea water
