In 2012, L’Uomo e L’Ombra released a musical fairy tale. A love story between the doll Gentile and a soldier (a lieutenant) that unfolds in and out of a glass case, with a troublemaker in the middle (the Sultan) who is ultimately defeated both on the battlefield and in his love life... SEQUEL: The encouragement to carefully preserve the toys over time didn't yield the desired results. The lieutenant and his army were sold to a collector, while the dolls met a worse fate: they ended up in a landfill. Adverse weather conditions destroyed many dolls, including Gentile. The doll Violetta, despite losing her legs, "survived" by ending up sheltered inside a concrete pipe, where, however, there are mice. The mouse king holds the doll prisoner. For him, Violetta is a kind of trophy. Violetta lives on memories and dreams of freedom. One day, a mentally challenged homeless woman, rummaging through a landfill, finds the doll and takes it with her, hiding it in a hedge in the small public garden where she lives. She cares for it, cleaning and dressing it, imagining it as a daughter. She feeds it by stuffing its body with stale bread and cookies. Some time later, the homeless woman places another doll, found who knows where, next to Violetta and gives it the same loving attention. One day, the homeless woman never returns. The dolls fear being left alone, but from their plastic bodies, filled with food scraps and the dampness of the earth, colorful butterflies emerge and float in the air.
