AI Categories

bjtap wrote on 9/10/2026, 12:54 PM

I just received an email from Magix regarding VideoDeluxe 2027. One of the photos they show is AI Categories. I don't see it. (I did in 2026 and VideoPro x17). Is there someone out there who can guide me to it? I do see Organize Media but that seems to deal with photos only... not video. Any guidance will be appreciated.

I just tried to make a detailed post and clicking on Comment gives me a 403 error. I'll try later.

I tried to edit this post by putting in the details and Save changes just gave me back the same post - just the line above.

Once again, I'm getting the 403 error when I try to post my reply. Maybe there is a limit or something. Here is the start:

Hi Barry,

They probably showed an image from VDL2026 or VPX17 and not 2027/18.

In VDL2027, they have changed the classification system and whilst they have add facial recognition and tagging, they have created a couple of problems.

You should take a look at the manual for 2027, starting at page 152, to get an idea as to how it all works.

Instead of KI-Kategorien (categories), they have now put it under "Organize Media" under the Import tab.

Here are my comments on how it works along with a couple of problems:

Differences between 2026 and 2027

  • In 2027 Categories are under a new heading, "Organize Media," in 2026 "KI-Kategorien.' There are two types in 2027: Tags created by the user; System Categories with the same names as Categories in 2026.
  • In 2026, classification was done under the Import parameter gear with "Start classification." In 2027, it's mainly done under "Start image recognition," and Tag Media. However, Tag Media only gets images that are in the selected folder, no videos. This makes it useless for tagging or categorizing video with your own tags.
  • In 2026, it was only possible to use the built-in categories. 2027 allows adding tags (categories) by clicking on Tag Media - but for images only.

For both versions, classification data is stored under:

C:\ProgramData\MAGIX\Common\AiClassification

Running "Start image recognition" creates takes for various clips that get linked to a System Classification and these are stored under:

C:\ProgramData\MAGIX\Common\AiClassification\Takes

Note that takes created using 2026 are also stored here, they just don't show up in 2027 using Advanced Search.

Running "Start face recognition" also creates takes for various faces and these are stored under:

C:\ProgramData\MAGIX\Common\AiClassification\FaceRecognition

Note that running this will also find faces in the videos. However, I noticed that it did not find faces in some of the videos that clearly had faces and, in fact, found nothing and the videos don't show up under Face Recognition.

Problem 1: System Categories assigned using 2026 do not show up at all in 2027, not even under the same System Category names as 2026. Magix should fix this.

Problem 2: neither user Tags nor System Categories can be assigned to Videos using Tag Media, only to Images. Users should be able to also tag videos. Magix should fix this.

If anyone finds anything else, please let us know.

John CB,

Thanks for the thorough reply. Of the two problems you mention the first one is of small consequence to me as I never used the 2026 categories, as there was no deleting or creating or reassigning the video tags. I did not mind too much the 'slowness' 2026 performed, but the no editing or reassigning imho, was a major drawback.

When I saw on the website that tagging and categories could be changed I thought Magix really worked on improving what they started. As not made clear on Magix's website, these items were for photos only. I watched a 'what's new' video in German, but with English subtitles, and that video made it clear these tagging and categorizing were for photos only. (I have plenty of other apps who do the same tagging etc. so the feature in Video deluxe 2027 is useless for me).

I have also discovered that a few song collections just do not appear in 2027. Following the Magix's web pages and email ai support responses did not work. I do not expect a response from support anytime soon either. These song collections do appear in previous versions of Videopro X and Videodeluxe.

Also the support page and ai responses refer to a menu choice that does not exist. Something to the affect of 'delete store content'. Using 'download my store content' started out doing nothing. Now, sometimes giving a popup stating something like 'could not download content'. This popup window cannot be dismissed as it keeps popping up over and over again with the only 'out' is to use task manager to end task.

Thanks, Barry
