Burning an .avi file to DVD

I purchased Magix Movie Edit Pro 12. I have some television shows on my computer in .avi format. When I try to send them to the program to burn them, I get a message that the program can't read the file.

I am still new to this, and any advice would be greatly appreciated.

These files are normally play on your computer?
What operational system Installed on your computer? A computer configuration (the processor, memory, a chipset)?
