Can someone tell me the best tutorials available for understanding the basics of Movie Edit Pro 17?

I consider myself a pretty quick learner but i have found Movie Edit Pro 17 to be very user unfriendly and the manual doesnt seem to help much.  I am having a hard time with some very basic things:

 

1.  When i import files into a project, do they sit in some some sort of holding area (e.g., the media pool) until i pull them into the project or when i import, do they go directly into my project?

 

2.  For movements and transitions, how do i check to see what movement/transition i have selected for a given frame/transition point?  I have gone through and added several throughout the project and i can remember every single one i chose.  When i see one that i want to repeat, i can seem to find out what it was that i selected.

 

3. on page 100 of the manual, it says "Some transitions can be adjusted even more exactly. To do so, click
the corresponding fade symbol in the timeline or in the storyboard
and select "Settings".".....WHERE IS SETTINGS?????

 

Also, please let me know if there are other recommended resources that i can use for learning the different edit functions.  Thanks in advance.

There is a DVD out there called "Video Editing Made Simple with Movie Edit Pro" that is available from MAGIX.

1. Importing. Depending on your camera, you can import in various ways. My cameras when connected to the PC act as external drives... meaning they show up in Windows with their own drive letter. This allows me to use the Media Pool (which is more like Windows Explorer) to navigate to the camera (the drive that it is represented as) and its content. I can then drag that content into the arrangement.
 

 

 

2. I am not sure I understand completely here, so you might need to follow up with more info if I get this wrong. In the inllustration below, I have used one pattern in the video I have loaded, when I view the media pool area I can see the pattern used is indicated with a red box in the upper corner.

 

 

Below, I show that if I do a size postion or movement effect, that there is an area per "object" that shows what I have done to that object. (Key Frame Area)

 

 

3. Page 100 of the manual for me is about AVCHD activation and Import of a non-copy protected DVD. If this is for editing a transition there is a field in the media pool that it might be referring too.

Some additions to john-auvil's suggestions:

 

1. Yes, you can import directly from a camera seen as an external drive, but if later on you load that project into MEP it will look for the clip in its original camera location. You should be prompted to copy to a fixed drive. Some users feel that performance is better if your media are on a different physical drive (not a partition) than the program.

 

2. The red markers on media pool items are handy but they show what's being used somewhere in the project but  unfortunatly there's no indication where.

 

Note the tiny arrow head icon to the left of 'Image size/position' in the key frame screen shot. Click on it to reveal the sub headings. If you have a key frame set there will also be more icons. The 'eye' one will display an animation curve on your object. 

 

3. Settings? -- some do, some don't! For example the three sun blinds on the 'Patterns' page have no adjustment, but 'Sun blinds' on the 'Standard' page has settings for width and direction.
