When trying to sync the one video track I need to have that track plus the track that contains the mixed audio. So it's really solo plus one. Once I've got the visual sync done and selecting a section, then I need to see all tracks so I can properly size and location that video clip (that singer).

Any track that is soloed will be active. So less tracks (I assume) would need to be soloed at any one time compared to possibly how many tracks would need to be muted. I can't think of another way to reduce the need to select tracks.

Do you mean you want to hide all tracks other than the active one and the music track, if so this is not possible.

There are several options:

1. Reduce the heights of the tracks that are not active to the absolute minimum by using the Track options as shown below
   
    
2. If you are working with 1 monitor you can expand the timeline pane to full screen by clicking the indicated button in the image below - you also click the same button to return to normal
   
    
3. if you have 2 monitors you can expand the timeline to fill one screen and maintain access to the rest of the program interface as shown below

Actually I want to hide the video shown for all tracks except the one I'm working on, at least until I've done whatever effects are needed, like syncing with the audio, selecting an area, and resizing it. Then I want to show all of the videos (i.e., make all tracks visible) so I can properly size and place the video from the track I'm working on. Using the solo buttons (now that I realize their use and find that I can have two "solos" at the same time so the audio track also works) solves the problem very nicely. Before I was manually muting all of the tracks I didn't want to see and un-muting them manually when I was ready place the video from the track I was working on. As I added more tracks that because a real pain to do.

Yes, logic would make one think muting is the best way to go until you realise Solo the opposite to mute and can be added to. It would be nice in the future if maybe the program could be at least one screen touch sensitive or have an external set of buttons / switches or similar. I know you can add a scrub wheel with a few buttons. A few people here I think have.

To add the scrub wheel - click the Preview monitor options shown below, the Jog wheel (indacated in yellow) it will allow you to move the timeline cursor depending on which way you move it with the mouse and the shuttle button allows you to move backwards/forwards at varying speeds depending on how far left/right you move the knob.

Note  to see the jog and shuttle controls the Preview monitor may have to be increased in size to give the display room to show them

To here the audio while scrubbing you need to turn this on using the option shown below

Personally I avoid this one as it drives me nuts after a while.

I watched the video about using key frames to move a video, but what was shown used a picture and showed moving the focus (portion viewed) from one area to another. It looked like it might be a solution to my attempt to try to move a group of videos (of singers) from one area to another as part of the video and as I've seen in other choral videos; however, I couldn't figure out how to select multiple videos displayed on the screen to put them in a key frame. It insisted that I select one video first, then select an area in the video. I was trying to "mute" (not display) the background video, then select the singers videos and using them set a start point and end point to move it on the screen during the movie. But there does not seem to be a way to do that. And key frames are not really discussed in the manual or on line help, since searches came up with no results.

Anyone have any solutions?

All I have time for right now, but there are several tutorials showing how to use keyframes and the manual does show how to use them.
