Curser returns to zero on timeline

hdrechsel18 wrote on 10/25/2026, 10:39 AM

I am using Movie Studio 2024 Platinum.

I'm having a problem with the curser returning to zero on the timeline, instead of playing from the playback point where I have placed the curser. It's very annoying, and the only way I can find to correct it, is to shut down and re-start the program. I'm not sure if I'm hitting something by mistake (?), or if there is something in setup I'm missing (?).

Has anyone come across this issue? Is there a fix that I'm missing?

I appreciate any help. Harry D.

Hi Harry

Assuming you are using the Spacebar to stop/start playback then check the Playback stops at current playback position option in the program Settings is on - see image below

Using the Spacebar to stop/start should then work as you require.

@hdrechsel18

Does the Play marker jump to the "start" (meaning the extreme left edge of the movie) when you start playback or stop playback?

Even if you don't have that setting ticked, the play marker will (should) only jump back to where it was before, not to the start of the movie.

If it is jumping back to the start of the movie, have a read of this post:

Thank you John and AAProds.

The problem is sporadic, so I'll try what you have both pointed to the next time it happens. Actually (John) I rarely use the Spacebar to stop/start playback. I usually just use the transport controls on the preview screen. I guess I should get used to using the Spacebar (as it is selected under Settings).

I appreciate the help (less frustration lol).
