Customising a DVD menu

I've spent a couple of hours on this in vain so far today. The following screenshots should describe the problem in detail. I'm sure I have done this successfully before, with this same template, either with an earlier MEP17 or with MEP16, but it completely eludes me now!

Hi Terry

Yes you do have to use the arranger if you want to change the background clip.  Why the other options are not available is a bit of a mystery.  The only thing I can think of is that the movie for which your are editing the DVD menu is not there!!

Thanks John, good to hear from you. Yes, I'd finally got my head around this and come to that same conclusion. What's more, you and Manuel basically told me the same many months ago!

But in the hope that Magix Support see this, perhaps I could make some constructive criticisms.

I think that dialog window is poorly designed. In fact,  I'd go further and say that it's buggy. For  a start it shouldn't show those options I illustrated: Use frame from movie and Use other graphic. It's clear that they are not valid for this template (and most others I've tried). If a setting isn't usable then it should either be absent or totally greyed out.

I also think it's confusing that this dialog includes settings for the whole menu and DVD, yet it's called Menu entry properties  and it's displayed when you right click that text/button entry and choose Properties. It seems that Magix couldn't decide whether to have a dialog window exclusively for these 'DVD' settings, or to include them in every dialog, even those for editing text titles like this one.

I haven't checked whether other settings like those under Action at the end of the film work or not.

And I think there should be a prominent message showing what can and cannot be customised  from the Burn tab dialogs and which need to be done in the Arranger > Edit window.

And I remain unclear why the settings I showed in my screenshot under Disc Options and Design Page can't be used:

Why the other options are not available is a bit of a mystery.  The only thing I can think of is that the movie for which your are editing the DVD menu is not there!!

It's definitely present on the timeline - just a single MP4 already rendered/exported and re-imported to MEP.

Finally, I've posted before about my inability to reply here with my iPad. Tried to compose this on it earlier from the comfort of our lounge, but clicking neither Answer nor Quote did anything. JavaScipt is enabled. Can't say I've had this problem with any forum before with the iPad in the year since I bought it, so I'm baffled. Any other iPad users around?
