Download fails for Audio Cleaning Lab MX

Martin-Sauser wrote on 3/4/2026, 7:07 AM

I bought MAGIX Audio Cleaning Lab MX in 2012. I need to reinstall due to a hard drive change on my computer. As soon as it starts downloading the installation file, the installation manager stops and the screen disappears. If this software is not longer supported, can I get the installation file some other way? I have my license key (serial number) and order number. I'm running Windows 11.

@Martin-Sauser The downloader for programs released before 2014 no longer works. I assume this is caused by modern security certificates on the download servers which likely aren't compatible with old programs. So they simply crash.

The only option you have is to contact customer support at infoservice@magix.net and ask them for a direct download link. But after Magix switched to a different parent company last year it's up in the air if they even have backups of old programs.

Another problem is that customer service is currently extremely hard to reach. My latest support ticket took over 3 months to get a response from support (and this was only by a lucky coincidence).

@Martin-Sauser

In addition to what @SP. has written, I very much doubt whether ACL MX will run, and possibly not even install, under Windows 11.

Thanks for your responses. I'm unhappy that MAGIX no longer supports my product but it has been 12 years since my original purchase. I plan to buy a new copy of Sound Forge Audio Cleaning Lab 4 from a reputable vendor (Sweetwater Audio). Hopefully it will serve me well for the next 12 years.

@Martin-Sauser

Hi,

I suggest that you try out Sound Forge Audio Cleaning Lab 4 first and review the problems that I have indicated in the following video. These problems don't cause much more than an annoyance. SpectraLayers Elements has to be used as a standalone as the ARA interface doesn't work properly.

Note that SF Audio Cleaning Lab went to Boris FX along with Sequoia/Samplitude and Boris is not even selling it and probably doesn't even know they have it. I have noted this on two of Boris's forums to no avail. It's an excellent program that deserves to survive.
