Error code -6 on startup ("program could not be started") - Rescue you

Hi everyone,

I’m running into an issue trying to use my MAGIX "Rescue your videotapes! Edition Video Easy" software.

The Problem: When I try to open the program on my laptop, it fails to launch and I get the following error message:

"The program could not be started, error code: -6"

Additional Context: The software is already installed on my laptop, but unfortunately, I cannot find the original DVD media to reinstall or repair it.

Since I don't have the physical installation disc, what is the best way to resolve this error code and get the software running again? Are downloadable installer links available for registered users in this situation?

Thanks in advance for any help or suggestions!

@Jehuda-Roth

Welcome to the Magix user to user forums.

Are downloadable installer links available for registered users in this situation?

Yes, but given your software was originally on DVD I am honestly not sure. To check, and assuming you originally registered your software and so created a Magix account, you need to go to the login page, complete the process (email and password) and then go to My products where you should find a listing of all the Magix products you own, along with the serial keys and any available download links.

However, you really need to attempt to discover why the error code is being seen! Error code 6 means that the program installation is somehow damaged or faulty. Although now a very old thread and referring to an equally old program this reply may help you to resolve the initial issue.
