Error while downloading covers from the store ...

Ronald-King wrote on 9/1/2025, 4:43 PM

My computer died a hard death, so I got a new one and I am re-installing everything.

After installing Movie Studio 2025 Suite, when I click on then Effects menu, I get an error message that says "Error while downloading covers from the Store. Please check if an internet connection is available". The application locks up and the OK button in the error message is unclickable and the close button does not work. Have to shut down form task manager and cant actually do anything.

Well, I do have an internet connection, or I would not be able to write this.

Any help would be appreciated.

Anyone? I still have this problem. Renders application unusable. Even tried deleting and reinstalling.

@Ronald-King

Hi Ronald,

This might be the solution for you. Start Movie Studio 2025 and go to: Help / Delete locale Store content....

That seems to have done it. Thank you very much.

I hate to go backwards, but this solution has not actually worked. It just comes back over and over, making the app unusable. Any other ideas.

Hi

. . . . "Error while downloading covers from the Store. Please check if an internet connection is available" . . . It just comes back over and over, making the app unusable . . . .

This would suggest:

  1. The Antivirus (AV) program is interfering with or blocking the program's access to the Internet. Check the AV you have installed for any messages or logs that access to the internet has been blocked, how you do this will depend on the AV installed.

  2. If you using Windows 10 or11 and you are logging on with a Microsoft account, you may have oneDrive activated and syncing your Documents, Desktop and Music folders to OneDrive.

You can check this in MMS 2025, press the Y key to open the program settings and on the Folders tab where you will see if OneDrive is mentioned in the folders path options.

See this Microsoft article on how to modify the OneDrive settings to either remove the Magix folder where your projects etc are stored from syncing to OneDrive, or stop syncing everything. Do ensure you have backup copies stored locally on your computer.

If none of the above work then we need more information to help diagnose the issue(s) you are having:

The specification of your computer system including Windows version and program version, see this topic for what is required and please quote processor and graphics card make/model in full, and also what monitor/screen resolution(s) you are working with if this is a laptop.

I would suggest you put this information in your profile signature so we do not have to keep asking for it.

My computer is a fairly new Windows 11 machine (25H2 26200.7462), fully updated, with Nvidia RTX 5070 and Intel Core 7 Ultra 265, 32 GB Ramm and two 2 TB NVME SSDs.

The only AV program installed is the built in Windows AV. Every other internet operation I do works fine. Just this one does not work.

I am using Magix Movies Studio 2025 Suite V 23.0.1.249 (UDP3) UG Code 8486 KA1

I have uninstalled and reinstalled the software, downloading a copy form the Magix site make sure I had the latest and nothing was corrupted.

I also get a complete lockup if I click on the Store Tab at the top right, but no error message. Other than these errors, the software works fine.

The Magix installation folder and AppData folders are NOTin OneDrive.

The folder "MAGIX Project\Movie Studio 2025 Suite" is in my "OneDrive\Documents" folder. I did not put it there, that was done during install, and I don't know how to change that. If you can show me how, I will, but I am not running without OneDrive. I am willing to do a reinstall if that folder can be changed during setup. Also, per the article you pointed out, I CANNOT un-sync the folder because it is in the Documents folder. I could try to move it, but don't know how to do that AND make sure the App knows.

I do store my projects on OneDrive, but not in Magix created folders. I don't understand why the Magix Store would care about that.

If you know that OneDrive is specifically a problem (not a guess), I will test moving my projects, however, a Windows based product that does not play nice with OneDrive is not one I can use. I have been using Magix software for many years and have really enjoyed it, but I also have Adobe premiere, I just don't like it as much.

There biggest issue is the error message the pops up cannot be dismissed and the only solution is End Task. It has a close button, but it is not enabled. The fact that something cannot be downloaded should not break the program. The complete lockup if I click on the Store Tab is also a problem. I am a programmer, I know how this stuff works; a lack of a good connection should not be App breaking. The code has a bug that needs fixing.

Hi

. . . . MAGIX Project\Movie Studio 2025 Suite" is in my "OneDrive\Documents" folder. . . . .

That is the Magix folder I referred to in item 2 not the installation location or Program Data folder and the solution is in the 3rd paragrpah of item 2.

. . . . The folder "MAGIX Project\Movie Studio 2025 Suite" is in my "OneDrive\Documents" folder. I did not put it there . . . a Windows based product that does not play nice with OneDrive is not one I can use . . . .

You are not to blame for this, Microsoft and Windows 11 25H2 Home setup did it.

This is an issue caused by Microsoft with Windows 11 25H2 setup being misleading in that you need to set up Microsoft Account, if you do not have one, or login in with one, if you do, there is no option to use a local account to login.

The setup then, by default, turns on syncing, of the folders I mentioned in item 2, to OneDrive, as you can see your Documents folder contains the Magix folder, however while that folder is on your computer, it is being synchronised with OneDrive, on the Internet, this synchronisation, occurs every 10 mins by default or every time a new file is created or modified. Video editors generally create or modify support files in the background while you are editing, for the most part you do not see them.

With Movie Studio, the files you do see are those with a file extension of .H0 and .HDP in the same folder(s) as your audio and video files are located, and the AudioTemp folder.

You will also find that there are many complaints from Premiere and several other video editor software users about this issue.
