Export quality from RTX Ti3060 far inferior to UHD770

AAProds wrote on 2/22/2026, 4:39 AM

I have read at various points that CPU encoding yields better results than GPU encoding, but the experiments I'd done in the past weren't conclusive enough to justify the extra encoding time. I've just started editing drone footage videos (2720x1530, 59.94 CFR) 9XMAS present!), some of which have extensive slow panning, and noticed a definite jerky/"non-smooth" motion. It was so bad that I was disappointed, especially with the TV display.

So as an experiment, I loaded that jerky file into Handbrake and exported it using the default x264 and to my horror, it was smooth.

I then loaded that jerky back into VDL (I'd deleted the source files) and exported using the UHD770, and lo and behold, it was smooth as silk.

So, for this type of source at least, it seems using the iGPU produced a much nicer export than the RTX GPU. I didn't try the CPU itself.

Has anybody found the same?

Hello @AAProds , is your Magix Video Deluxe 2026 up to date?

If so, you might be experiencing problems with NVENC H264 (AVCHD). Exporting should be smooth with NVENC H265 (HEVC).

The number of affected users is small.

It seems only a small number of users are affected.

In the German forum, we've only had 3 or 4 other affected users so far.

It's due to the latest Magix update for the current Nvidia drivers.

With H264, the export is no longer performed cleanly, resulting in noticeable stuttering.

User @vdl-user-v19 has been most involved with this issue so far.

Yes, only a few users have commented on the issue so far.
Nevertheless, I think that it is a general problem in the configuration mentioned (latest version of the 2026 Magix software with the latest Nvidia driver).
Let's hope it gets patched soon.
In the meantime, you can switch to HEVC or existing Intel graphics.

G'day, interesting, thanks for that. My situation:

-VDL is at version 316 (no updates available)

-I'm using the NVidia 581.80 driver you referred Andy to in this post.

-HEVC on the 3060 does indeed export nice and smoothly, like the UHD770 did with H264. Thanks for that tip, although I'm a bit old-fashioned and like H264.

You can add my name to the list. 😉

Thanks for letting us know that the problem also exists with the older 58x.xx driver. This confirms once again that the Magix patch .316 solved one problem but created another.

I've just seen this post.

Try exporting at exactly 60 fps rather than 59.94.

I know you don't like doing such things but is the result smoother?

Hi Al

I do not work with NTSC frame rate video, only PAL 25 and 50 and 120 fps and I see the RTX encoded PAL exports for the 50 fps and 120 fps source videos smooth exporting at 50 fps.

Encoding on the RTX exporting to 25 fps for both 25 and 50 fps source videos, does introduce some stutter depending on how fast the pan or cross screen movement. I mentioned this in another related topic, I think it was Andy's first warning about the NV driver issue, not so long ago.

Certainly the Intel encoding for h.264/AVC is superior to the RTX at the moment.

HEVC, as @Marc-Goder has commented, is fine giving less stutter on pan and cross screen movement at 25 fps.

All,

I've uploaded a folder to Google Drive containing two files showing the issue. It's not really noticeable on my 60Hz monitor but on my TV (2019 LG LED, 200Hz refresh rate) the jerkiness problem is obvious.

Another thing I've noticed: when I play the 3060 file on my TV through the network (I use Serviio) or off a USB stick, the audio cuts out towards the end of the clip. On a longer version of the video, the audio got choppy and then eventually stopped completely but the video kept playing OK. On the UHD770 clip, there is no such problem; the audio plays all the way through. This only occurs on the TV; VLC Players plays all the audio, and the file has a waveform if re-imported into VDL.

I tried the 3060 file on a friend's near-new Samsung TV; there was virtually no jerkiness and the audio played all the way through.

I will retract my comment about this not being noticeable on my monitor. Here is a comparison video; the jerkiness of the 3060 video is plainly obvious in VLC Player. I don't know whether my eyes are deceiving me, but the UHD770 video appears slightly softer/blurrier... Still nicer to watch though.

You'll probably need to download the file (41mb) as Google Drive looks like it recodes it if you play it in the Google Drive player.

@AAProds,

The jerky movements are particularly noticeable in the file “Drone RTX3060Ti VDL316 591.86.mp4”.
(Viewed, for example, with MPC-HC 2.6.2 and especially with Nvidia ICAT on a 60Hz UHD monitor)

johnebaker wrote on 2/23/2026, 4:07 AM

Hi Al

Thanks for the video clips, I see the same as you.

Can you upload an original drone video for us to test with.

Which export preset are you using?

The MediaInfo data of the exports looks like the video is being encoded with PAL GOP settings, M=3, N=50. however the framerate is 59.94 fps, is the export preset being modified?

Does RTX exporting using MP4 Full HD 1920x 1080, 59.94 fps preset, this will have the GOP length set to 60, modifiying only the resolution to 2720 x 1530 pixels give smoother playback on the TV?

The other difference I see, again from the MediaInfo data is the UHD encoded video has this parameter set:

Format settings, Slice count : 4 slices per frame

AFAICS, looking at what slicing does, it splits a frame in to 4 groups of macroblocks, this may help with smoother playback, I could be wrong on this.

This is not present in the RTX export, which may suggest that the parameter is not being set, or has a default value of 1, only Magix can tell us that!

Greetings Al,

I put the your RTX file into "My MP4Box" and demuxed it. Using the same app, I then put the resulting H264 file and ADTS file back into "My MP4Box" and muxed it - obviously no re-encoding,

The resulting MP4 plays as smoothly as the UHD770 file.

Make of that what you will 😊

Hi Al, Andy

I have tested one of my 4K UHD 50 fps video clips exporting as 4K UHD, changing only the framerate to 59.94 fps, before and after updating the RTX driver from 581.80 to 591.86 and the Magix patch to fix the issue with the 591 driver.

Compared to the original, the pre-updates export showed very mild jerkiness, however the post updates export showed severe jerkiness, almost unwatchable.

HEVC export post update is, as @Marc-Goder commented fine.

Comparing export times:

  • h.264/AVC pre update - 1m 56 secs

  • h.264/AVC post updates 2m 47 secs

  • HEVC took 2m 7 secs.

There is definitely something still borked with the NV 591.86 drivers and/or the export fix update from Magix.

@johnebaker

Here's an "original" drone file. I've put it into the folder I linked-to above.

Yes, I have modified the presets. I'm not seeing any difference with Presets but will keep analysing.

According to my previous tests, the jerky Nvidia H.264 output also occurs with default presets and different source material, as well as different frame rates. I still believe that this is a problem caused by or related to the .316 update.

As far as I can see, the Nvidia presets were adjusted in the .316 update. Therefore, it is likely that this is the cause.

@AAProds

Hi Al

Thanks for the sample file.

I have tried various combinations of framerate and GOP length and see no difference between the original and the RTX exports, perhaps the movement is not fast enough.

The problem is seen very clearly in this sample file. - the colours are pale because it is in Cine-D 10 bit format.

@vdl-user-v19

HI

. . . . the Nvidia presets were adjusted in the .316 update. . . .

Agreed.

I think the issue is a combination of the presets needing more fine tuning of the encoding parameters we cannot access, and an issue with the RTX 591. drivers.
