FlipVideo File (AVI) will not import

I've got an original FlipVideo camera that saves files in AVI format. I've also go an original GoPro camera. I've never had a problem importing the video files from my Go Pro, but every time I try to import the Flip Video files, the Movie Edit Pro 17 software stops responding.

Have you checked with the manufacture of the FlipVideo?

That AVI file might not be all that you think it is, It could have a like a MPG, XviD, or DivX codec part that the program cannot use as it could be proprietary to that manufacture. This is very likely if the camera came with its own software to use for taking the video to the computer or disc.

Thanks John. I had not tried the manufacturer. I was able to load and edit the video using Dashware so I just assumed that I'd be able to import the video into Magix as well. I did find a workaround by importing and then exporting from Dashware.

I think you are missing the required codec for these avi files.

Download and use GSpot or MediaInfo to analyse the avi files (Google search will find them), they will tell you what the codec actually is inside the file. AVI is just a container format and can contain any codec internally.

IIRC from the old Magix forum the FLIP avi files are DIVX inside - the above programs will tell you for certain.
