I have Windows Vista. The HDV camera is connected with an iLink cable. Camera make is a Sony Handycam HDR-FX7. I appreciate any assistance you can provide.
I think it's a 64 bit AMD/NVIDIA. Yes, the camera works. Firewire plugged in. Message still pops up "could not connect to selected device". It connected the first time (last week), but instead of HDV Camera, I had to select DV Camera. Now it won't connect at all. Someone told me to get Adobe Premier, is this Magix Edit Pro MX good? Starting to have my doubts. I appreciate your help.
We need clear information on your system specificaion-
I think it's a 64 bit AMD/NVIDIA - this is your processor type, not the Windows version you have - to find your Windows version right click Computer on your desktop and select Properties a windows similar to this will open, the highlighted items will tell you which version of Windows you have.
Also include details of your motherboard make and model, does it have an onboard Firewire (IEEE1369) port or are you using an add on Firewire card?
iLink is the Sony name for Firewire (IEEE1369)

Did you successfully capture some video from the camera the first time you connected?
It is Vista Home Premium. Finally got it to transfer video to the computer. Had to record it as DV camera, instead of HDV camera. Hope it turns out HD video. It did the same thing last week. I updated the driver like your tutorial showed. Wouldn't let me add the 'legacy' though. Will start editing soon. I'm doing video tours and business videos for healthcare businesses. Thanks for your help!
