I own Movie Studio 2024 Platinum. What product do I upgrade to?

Ian-Schwartz wrote on 8/25/2026, 5:04 PM

Two questions:

  1. I own Movie Studio 2024 Platinum. I recently received an email with an offer to upgrade. However, none of the options are called Platinum. The options are Premium or Ultimate.
    Which one should I purchase?
  2. Also, the offer is in dollars. Is this USD or CAD?

Greetings Ian, I too am being bombarded with sales emails and in-app popups perversely often with different prices for the same product on the same day.

However to your question; I don't really know the definitive answer but the website comparisons should give what effects are available in each version so probably the one to choose is the one that has (almost) the same as your current version.

That being said, Tom Sperner - Marketing Manager of Magix, said on this German site (thanks @Marc-Goder)

https://www.videoaktiv.tv/magazin/magazin-editing/interview-mit-magix-strategie-fuer-video-deluxe-und-co/strategie-fuer-magix-und-videoaktiv-fazit

a few months ago "There will be no change in the existing product strategy for video deluxe and Video Pro X. We are sticking to the proven concept and, as mentioned, are fully focused on the upcoming releases in autumn 2026".

I won't be updating my MS2025 until then at the earliest.

@Ian-Schwartz

Hi Ian,

Are you in Canada or the USA?

Magix sold off Vegas and renamed Movie Studio, which used to be Movie Edit Pro, to the international (non-English world) name, Video Deluxe. There are only two versions, Plus and Premium as Magix went back to the old naming system. Ultimate is the Premium version plus a whole lot of add-ons, as shown on the Magix site. To understand better and to see how to install everything with and without Ultimate, see the following video that I did recently.

I receive popup notifications when I turn on my computer and regularly receive the following:

Here is the link when I click on "Upgrade now." I presume that this is in USD, but I haven't followed it through to purchase as I already have it, and paid 3 times that price. I don't know if you qualify, but you can always try.

If you turned off these notifications, then you probably have never seen the best deal. How much is Magix asking for in the email that you received?

If you can get VPX17U for 50$ US, that is absolutely a phenomenal deal.

It's possible that Magix issues a new version, but I'm not holding my breath.

Hi Andy,

Thanks for the link. I wasn't able to discern the stability problems that is mentioned in the article. Any idea?

I haven't noticed stability problems with either VPX or VDL with the current versions. I have had a few crashes, usually when playing around too much with titles, so I always do a save first. I haven't noticed any posts on this forum about stability problems, only installation problems and the usual users trying use a different email address when reinstalling a Magix program, without first changing it with Magix. It always amazes me that there are so many people who don't understand that their registered email address is also their user name and that one cannot just decide to use a different user name without advising the company. This includes all sites to which the user is registered, like banks.

@browj2

Greetings John.

I'm assuming that in the article Tom Sperner is talking about VDL 2026 so I can't really comment on the stabilty problems as I'm currently on MS 2025 that seems to be stable apart from a couple of niggles that could be put down to my system.

@browj2

Hi John

From the article you linked to the "issue of stability" is Video Aktiv's own quote of received comments in their previous article, they may have also looked in the forum.

In the pane headed STELLUNGNAHME VON MAGIX (Statement from Magix), translates to:

" Tom Sperner, Marketing Manager at Magix, sent us a statement today regarding our commentary, emphasizing that they do not understand our remarks concerning stability. At the same time, however, they acknowledge that there were stability issues involving a third-party component earlier in the year—issues they claim to have resolved quickly via a patch."

If Magix follow the usual updating schedule, the next should be a new major version number, v 26.0.x.xxx.ie VDL 2027.

Ian, $50 for VPX17 with all Prodad's is a steal deal, even if it's not a giant leap from your MS2024.
