Imported MP4 & MTS files give nothing but pink snow

I am using Magix 16 on a Windows XP desktop computer. When I first attempted to import an MTS file I was informed I needed to activate a special codec for it. I paid for the codec and entered the activation key. Magix will now import both MTS and MP4 files, but the image in the editor (and final product if exported) looks like looking through a pink snow storm and seeing just a faint outline of the images. I tried instaling Magix 16 on my laptop (also Windows XP), entered the activation key for the codec and it works fine. I then completely uninstalled Magix from my desktop computer and reinstalled it hoping to replace a corupted file or codec in the process. After the reinstall it doesn't ask for the activation key when importing MTS and MP4 files (somehow it remembered it), but the image quality is the same. I'd rather do the editing on the desktop machine as it has a little more computing horsepower.

I have the same problem, on my XP desktop, did you get any resolution to this?  It seems from some web-reading that this software may not deal with H.264 imports well and that a specialized MPEG editing software may be required.

 

Why are there no answers on any of the subjects here?

Simon - I think you're right. I haven't found a solution to this problem. I did install the software on my laptop to see how it would work there. The laptop is a little lower powered than my desktop, but both machines are running Windows XP. Magix 16 manages to open the MTS file on the laptop and can even save it as an MPEG2 or MPEG4 file, but the resultant video has poor image quality. The best results I got was by using AVS or Pavtube to first convert the MTS file to MPEG format.

Followup to original question - I have now purchased a new laptop computer and the pink snow is no longer an issue. It appears that my old computer's graphics card lacked the ability to deal H.264 HD video. I can now open and edit MTS files in Magix 16. However, if I export the project to MPEG4, the resultant file plays  back all 'splotchy', sort of pixelated and blurred. I've tried exporting to MPEG4 in 1920x1280 and in 1280x720 - same results in either case. I've also tried using other software to convert the MTS file to MPEG4 before importing it into the Magix project - same results. Exporting as an MPEG2 file works fine. I have a hard time believeing this is the fault of my computer as it is a HP 2.1Ghz quadcore with dedicated graphics, about the highest powered laptop I could find for under $1,000.
