Install failure for Movie Studio Platinum 14.0

I am trying to reinstall Movie Studio Platinum 14.0 on a Windows 11 PC and I get an error message every time I try. The message is:

ERROR: -2147163964 occured during installation

Module C:\Program Files\VEGAS\Movie Studio Platinum 14.0\sfvstwrap.dll failed to register.

I have a valid serial number and I downloaded the file from the website. How can I resolve?

While Vegas is now owned by Boris your Vegas MSP14 was a Magix released product and activation and codec unlocking is handled by Magix servers. So you need to approach Magix Support for assistance. But firstly I'd check it's not an internet problem as some security systems have been reported as interfering. So try temporarily switching off your security system while you try to install.

This error message has been seen before, and was related to a Windows issue with the required Microsoft Visual C++ Package.

Check your Windows for issues as follows:

Windows installation check, you must be connected to the Internet:

  1. Hold down the Windows Key and press X
  2.  Select - Terminal (Admin), this will open a new dialog pane.
  3.  Type in or copy and paste the command: 

    DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-Image /CheckHealth

    Press the Enter key to run
     
  4.  Once this completes repeat step 3 for each of the following commands in this order

    DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-Image /ScanHealth

    DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth

    SFC /SCANNOW 
     
  5. Re-install the Microsoft C++ redistributable 2013 from here
     
  6. Re-install Movie Studio Platinum 14.0

    
Note:

  • During the /RestoreHealth run, the progress may appear to freeze at 63 % for a while (up to 30 mins) as new Windows files are downloaded.
     
  • Running the Windows system file fix is at your own risk, if you do not feel comfortable doing this, then seek help from your local computer shop.
