Issues with MAGIX Video deluxe 2026 Plus

DarkWestern wrote on 9/6/2025, 11:36 PM

Hello again! I am back, plagued yet again with technical issues! Figured I'd just pop in and see if these are known issues, or if anyone else is experiencing them, or if there's already a solution...

Number one, I'm having problems with my tracks. Normally I like to have the video file be at the very top, and one track below, maybe images or text, and the track below it as music, but I've been plagued by this error that won't let me put things on the tracks I need them to be. The message I get is

"Object MOVIEFILE.mp4 cannot be moved to the current position because other objects have been placed here already."

There's nothing there stopping it. It simply insists there is. I have even zoomed in to the frame by frame and gone through every second painstakingly finding nothing prohibiting it...

Number two, all my movies have a ridiculous amount of black video at the end. If I edit a 10 minute video, it always comes out with 3~5 minutes of black void at the end, and yes I have painstakingly gone through every second of the track to insure there is nothing there!

Thanks again, and I am using Ctrl + Alt + G to export as .mp4 as I've learned twice now in the past thanks to you helpful folks here in the forums.

Something's cock-eyed somewhere! A quick test to show the length of your movie: click anywhere on a blank section of the timeline then then hit Enter. That will show you the whole movie, from the left edge of the left-most object to the right edge of the right-most object. It will show the blank area in between.

Alternatively, you can use ALT+W to jump along the object edges until you get to the very end of all the objects in your movie.

Assuming, of course, you don't have a Range set up across the top (blue bar).

In any case, if you try to export and the program finds blank area, it will warn you.

Thanks for the reply, AAProds! When I do ALT+W after clicking on the starting point, the cursor does jump between every cut, all the way to the end, and when I go to export the video, it says:

"Sections were found in the movie "MOVIEFILE" which do not contain any image of move material:
Number of areas detected: 1

Position of the longest rage: 00:11:27:49

If these areas are intentional, then select "ignore" to continue with the export process. Select "Jump to empty section" to cancel the process and jump directly to the lo9ngest section or "Cancel" to manually remove the section.

Note: In the "Edit" menu under "Move view", select "To next empty section" and "To previous empty section" to navigate to these empty areas in the movie."

Jumping to the empty section simply results in the cursor moving to the end of the video, instead of showing some anomalous extra bit that might be floating somewhere.

I actually exported the video anyways, and despite being 00:11:27:49, the end result was 00:21:23 with the intended portion of the video being 11:27:49 and a black void from then to 00:21:23

OK, so Magix thinks there's something there. If a track has something on it, it looks like it (the track) is slightly greyed:

In this example (after I hit Enter), track 5 and 6 have a 1-frame object after the blank space. Note tracks 5 and 6 are slightly grey (as are the ends of tracks 1 and 2).

Drag the timeline/track display up and down with the vertical scroll bar and inspect each track that is slightly greyed.

Sorry, I should say that I am color blind to a fault, is there any way to tell which one is slightly greyed, or can you maybe use MS Paint to put a circle on where I'm supposed to be looking? Also, thank you again, AAProds, you've been invaluable historically, and to this day. I am thankful for your assistance as always.

Hmm, I can see yours looks like a different shade than the others, but mine all seem uniform, at least to the best of my ability to tell.

Where are you uploading screenshots? I'm totally happy to share, but the forums doesn't seem to allow any form of uploading.

Ah! I see! I did not notice you double replied before I replied.

*Edit - you can also see the bizarre track arrangement due to the weird "something is already there, despite there being nothing there" error. Usually mine are all organized on one track per video, audio, image, text, etc.

Usually mine are all organized on one track per video, audio, image, text, etc.

You can separate the video and audio: in the program settings (key Y) on the video/Audio tab, untick "Video/Audio on one track".

Then do a Save (just in case).

Next, CTRL+A to select all your objects, then right-click on one of them, Audio functions>Video/Audio on Separate tracks. Or hit CTRL H. That will put the audio onto separate tracks. It might mess up your layout a bit.

You only have to do this for objects already on the timeline; any new objects will display the video and audio on separate tracks.

As for the rogue object at the 20 minute mark, I see your timeline doesn't have the lighter grey on the occupied tracks, which is as nuisance. Could it be your monitor is out of calibration?

Did you scroll down the tracks to see if anything was on any of the lower tracks?

It does look like you have a lot of tracks set as default: in File>Settings>Movie, set it to 16 tracks. That will reduce the number of tracks a rogue object could go to.

Hi

. . . . I am color blind to a fault . . . .

it would be helpful for , when we post images if we knew which type of colour blindness you have, eg red/green, blue/deep red, etc, or is everything virtually grey shades (achromatopsia).

The 'Out' marker ( ] ) indicated by the right arrow (1), in the section of your timeline image below, indicates that there is a stray object on a track, this could be as small as 1 frame on a lower track not shown in your image.

With the timeline cursor positioned at the end of the last media object, indicated by the left arrow (2) below, press the I key the thin top bar should now change colour/shade, starting from the end of the last media object to the right ] marker

While holding down the ALT key press the Delete (Del) key, the ] should now be at the end of the last media object.

Save the project with a new name.

"You can separate the video and audio: in the program settings (key Y) on the video/Audio tab, untick "Video/Audio on one track"."

I meant moreso, I organize type by track. Video on the 1st track, images/audio clips on second track, and usually a musical track for background noise on the third.

"As for the rogue object at the 20 minute mark, I see your timeline doesn't have the lighter grey on the occupied tracks, which is as nuisance. Could it be your monitor is out of calibration?

The monitor settings shouldn't have any reflection on what Windows sees, it's been my experience that even if you set your contrast to maximum, or brightness to minimum, it only applies to what the monitor outputs, and not on the software side, but that aside, my monitor uses presets that come factory stock.

Did you scroll down the tracks to see if anything was on any of the lower tracks?"

Yeah, I spent about 4 hours last night painstakingly going through every frame at maximum zoom, and there's nothing there.

It does look like you have a lot of tracks set as default: in File>Settings>Movie, set it to 16 tracks. That will reduce the number of tracks a rogue object could go to.

I've used Magix either for 10 years, or just around 10 years, and I've always used the factory default number for tracks. I wasn't even aware that this could be adjusted, I simply left them empty. I went in and changed mine to 6, as I can't fathom a need for more than that, and now that I'm aware it exists, I can adjust it to 7 or more should the need arise. Good call out!

it would be helpful for , when we post images if we knew which type of colour blindness you have, eg red/green, blue/deep red, etc, or is everything virtually grey shades (achromatopsia).

I usually leave this ambiguous because I've been tested many many times throughout my life, and what ever I've got never seems to fall under one condition.. The closest one is deuteranopia, which is red/green, but it goes well beyond that. Basically, I can't differentiate subtle shifts in tone, say a dark navy blue right next to a black, just looks black to me, same with shifts from lime to lemon, etc.

The 'Out' marker ( ] ) indicated by the right arrow (1), in the section of your timeline image below, indicates that there is a stray object on a track, this could be as small as 1 frame on a lower track not shown in your image.

I have seen these brackets on my projects throughout the years, but never knew what they were. They've never really had any effect on the rendered product before, and have just been arbitrarily placed wherever. I did conduct another test, with these brackets placed appropriately, and the giant block of empty black screen video was still there after rendering again with this screenshot:

What confuses me the most is that this is an entirely new issue for me. I actually run multiple youtube channels, and edit every single video, spanning across hundreds of videos using Magix, and this is the sole instance where this has occurred, which makes me think it's a MAGIX Video deluxe 2026 Plus specific issue.

I've even erased everything multiple times. There was one render that came out at a logical length based on the same routine that I've used for years, and this black screen portion of the video persists.. I am almost wondering if there's any way to roll back to a previous version, or something in the settings to revert it back to factory settings? I'm wondering if I accidentally hit some hotkey for a toggle for some super deep setting I'll never know exists or find.

@DarkWestern

I must admit I had to read John's square brackets comment a couple of times to understand what he was getting at. The process that he described will delete any object in the movie between the Play marker and the ]. That includes the rogue object that is at the very end of your minutes of blank space.

So:

-"Optimise the timeline view" by either clicking in any blank space on the timeline and hitting Enter, or hit CTRL+F, or click the Optimise Timeline View button at very bottom right.

-Position the Play marker on the right hand edge of the last object in your movie.

-Hit key i and observe [ bracket immediately above the right edge of your last object (above the Play Marker)

-Observe the ] marker at the very end of the timeline, after a lot of empty space.

-Hit ALT+DEL. This will delete/remove anything between the [ and the ].

Your blank space will (hopefully!) be gone.

Re use of tracks, it is your prerogative to keep the audio and video together but I do find it easier to have the audio separated (but still grouped with, of course) from it's video. The beauty of Magix is you can put anything anywhere (there are a couple of caveats to that).

something in the settings to revert it back to factory settings?

Certainly: File>Settings>Default Values>Reset Program Settings to Default.

Well! This seems to have eliminated the phantom object from the blackness at the end, which is 50% of my issues eliminated, thank you again!

I am still plagued by this though...

Are there any theories as to how this could happen? Is there some way to inadvertently hide objects, or restrict their visibility?

I tried moving my project within itself:

And then, using the steps above to delete any phantom object after the end marker, attempting to place it back onto the main track seems to have worked after about 3 or 4 times repeating the process...

Now, I must admit two things, I feel stupid for not realizing the giant button with the upwards facing arrow wasn't an upload button, but also, these brackets still mystify me. I've always completely disregarded them historically, as no matter their position, it seemed to always product the same end result when rendering. Do I need to be mindful of their location? What is their actual purpose? I too was lost on the earlier explanation. If I don't drag the end bracket to the end of the project, will it cut off everything after otherwise? If it's too far to the right, is that's what's causing the black screen for 10 minutes at the end of projects or is it just an arbitrary marker?

Also, thank you again to you both, AAProds and johnebaker, you've both come to my aid in the past, and continue to do so for me despite how completely and totally lost I am most of the time. It means a lot to me that you both are so active here and take time out of your day to do your best to help me.

@DarkWestern

Hi.

You can use the beginning and end range markers to export the exact locations to begin and end your render so it does not have to be the whole video, it could just be the intro for instance to use in another video later.

Just choose the following in the export selection.

Ray.

Hi

. . . . . Are there any theories as to how this could happen? Is there some way to inadvertently hide objects, or restrict their visibility? . . . . .

I have seen this loss of icon/preview before to indistinct blocks, IIRC it was caused by 'wizzing' around the timeline not giving the cache time to update properly.

In the program select Edit, Clear undo and memory cache.

In the folder where the video clips are located delete the files with .H0 and .HDP file extensions.

The brackets [ ] are called In and Out points and can be usedfor several purposes:

@CubeAce has already given you one use for rendering a section of the timeline.

I would add that they can be also be used to preview that section of the timeline - there is a Play range button just to the right of the bigger Play button under the Preview monitor

When importing video, and previewing/playing a video file direct from the Import tab, Media panel you can set an In and Out point, the 2 buttons are directly below the preview monitor, or you can press the I and O key. on dragging the clip from the Preview monitor, or Media pane, to the timeline, only the section of video between the In and Out points is added, useful if you only one multiple sections of a longer video clip.

Also good info, thanks again johnebaker!

@DarkWestern

The monitor settings shouldn't have any reflection on what Windows sees,

They do, actually. I had an issue a while back with a very indistinct border between the video window in the Preview monitor. The video window is pure black, but the surrounding area was almost black, making it very difficult to work out where the edges were for cropping purposes.

I then went through that Microsoft calibration procedure (nothing onerous) and the preview monitor edging brightened-up significantly.

@johnebaker

I see Darkwestern has come across the same "immoveable object" issue mentioned in this recent post:

I wonder if there is a problem here.

Interesting about the monitor thing. I've sent my roommate and colleagues snips of things and nobody has ever mentioned anything, but good to know either way.

I wonder if there is a problem here.

As I said before, this has never been an issue prior to upgrading to MAGIX Video deluxe 2026 Plus, I do feel slightly less like a dunce now that someone else is experiencing it! At least you've gotten one success story to pass the method along to hopefully help them too.
