Magix Travel Maps - OpenStreetMap issue

andrew-foxon wrote on 1/27/2026, 6:14 AM

Is anyone else having an issue with OpenStreetMap in Magix Travel Maps? I have 4 PCs all running the latest version of Travel Maps. Two are running Windows 10 and Two are running Windows 11. All are fully up to date with Windows updates. All are up to date with graphics card drivers (a mix of various Nvidia graphics cards).

The issue I'm having on all four PCs is that zooming in to OpenStreetMaps to get to street level mapping no longer functions. As I zoom in the map just gets more and more blurry and at full zoom simply displays blue sky in the top third of the screen and black in the bottom two thirds of the screen. See screen grabs attached.

The Standard map functions perfectly so I can still create the animated maps that I need. However, I've been producing lots of maps in the past to record trips to London over the past five years and it would be good to maintain the same 'look' for future maps. So, not a massive issue for me. It would just be a 'nice to have' if anyone has a solution for the malfunctioning OpenStreetMaps.

Thanks

Hi

I have a similar issue, with version 5.0.0.501 looks like OpenStreetMaps have done it again and changed their API, as in this topic from 2023 when we had the same issue.

Hi

I'm having a similar problem with version 5.0.0.501. It's been a few months since it stopped working. I'm wondering when Magix will release an update?

David-Robinson5527 wrote on 1/30/2026, 12:51 PM

Yes I was wondering what was wrong I was linking it to my recent installation of Photostory 2026 but I know it was playing up before then. I have all the same issues as above but with mine it opens with Dresden near the centre and if i try to move to the UK I find the Blue/Black screen is sitting behind the opening map with an outline of a world map to be faintly seen.

My best suggestion is put in a request to technical support, although they dont have a link dedicated to Travel Maps. I would use the link for the software you are using the maps in eg Photostory

Thanks for the comments. It's good to know it's not just me.

As suggested, I'll put in a request to technical support to see if they can sort the issue out.

Update to previous post. I sent a request to technical support and received the following automated response:

Dear Customer,

I am an AI support agent for MAGIX, and I am responding to your inquiry based on our knowledge base.

The issue you are experiencing with OpenStreetMap zooming in Magix Travel Maps version 5.0.0.501 is a known problem. Zooming in to street level currently does not function, and the map may appear blurry or display incorrect colors. This has been reported and forwarded to our development team for investigation.

At this time, there is no specific information about a planned fix or update to resolve the OpenStreetMap display issue. As a temporary solution, we recommend switching to one of the available ESRI maps within Travel Maps, which remain fully functional.

Unfortunately, it is not possible to maintain the exact same 'look' of your previous maps using OpenStreetMap until this issue is resolved. The ESRI maps are the best available alternative for now.

If your case is still not resolved, please reply directly to this e-mail. Your request will then be forwarded to our human customer support agents for further assistance.

Best regards,
MAGIX E-Mail Bot

So, Magix are aware of the issue but it looks as though they have no current plans to correct the issue. As users it seems that we will simply have to put up with the fault. Not a very customer focused response but this seems to be the way of the world with regards to customer service in general these days.

Did you read the first reply in this thread where @johnebaker wrote:

Especially note the bolded words. This is an issue created by OpenStreetMaps so whether it is reasonable to expect Magix to "rectify" it is questionable, I think.

Just to be clear: I am not seeking to defend Magix (a very quick read of various forum threads will soon reveal the lack of technical support which has plagued the company for some months) but where a "problem" is created by a third-party it may simply not be possible to offer any sort of "quick fix".

I have had similar problems where the supplier blames a subcontractor for the problem then they both blame each other until one of them gives in and reluctantly rectifies the issue. In this case don't hold your breath.

@David-Robinson5527

Hi

The 'current' version of the OSM API is v0.6 from 2009, see this OSM Wiki page, however - quote:

'Multiple backwards compatible changes were made afterwards without increasing the version number'

There is information available about a v 0.7.x.x, on the OSM Wiki here, the above quote is from the first paragraph of that article.

. . . . I have had similar problems where the supplier blames a subcontractor for the problem then they both blame each other until one of them gives in and reluctantly rectifies the issue . . . .

It is up to Magix to adjust the Travel Maps implementation of the API to reflect the changes in the API.

Part of the problem is, IMHO, partly caused by the way OMS 'announce' changes, most of which may not affect TM at the time, however does affect users either almost immediately or in later years as Windows changes/evolves.
