MEP 16 patch and MPEG4 codec problems.

MEP 16. Downloaded and installed latest patch. Then unable to use my .mov files, was prompted to get the MPEG4 codec which I did. Can now use .mov files but the movement in the preview screen is very jerky and there are now thin blue stripes running down the preview screen. Not very happy.

Thanks for any assistance.

Hi trout,

I didn't have that problem when I upgraded. The .mov files actually require an uptodate version of Quicktime. If the preview is jerky, then try reducing screen resolution of the previewer. Open the program and press the Y key on your keyboard.

Program Settings will appear. Go to Video/Audio and reduce resolution there.  Hopefully that will get it playing better now.

Thanks Man o' Lakes but unfortunately that didn't help. Have latest version of Quicktime. Think I'll need to uninstall then re-install without the patch. Thanks again.

OK Back to where I was yesterday now and performance is better. Will write to support and let them know the latest update causes problems.

You're welcome. The funny thing is though that the patch, at least in mine, and in the notes if you read them during installation, actually improves .mov import significantly. Bit like avi's , .mov is not just .mov.  If you do write to technical support, it might be good to send a small test sample and tell them the source, as there really are a lot of different files out there.

Cheers,

Thanks M o' L. I'm currently in contact with Support and they have asked for sample file which I will submit. Thanks for your continued interest. It's very kind of you to take the time.

I realize I'm weighing in late in the game here, but perhaps this will help someone else with similar problems who is serching the forums in the future. I recently clicked to 'update mpeg codec' (under "Help" on the menu bar, but disappears from the list after the update has been installed) and installed an update found at http://support2.magix.net under "Downloads". After that, exported MPEG4 files were all green with horizontal lines and were mostly froze or didn't play at all. I went into the program settings that Man o' Lakes spoke of and noticed that the bit rate and some other settings looked really high, like in the millions of KB/sec. I have no idea what these settings are supposed to be, so I went to File, Settings and clicked on Reset Program Settings to Default. I can now export MPEG4 files again, in fact I get better quality than before the updates.

Many thanks Bob59. I did do that and got a minor improvement but to be honest I'm just making do with how it is at the moment. The jerkiness and blue vertical lines seem to come and go. I'll look into the problem more deeply when I get to use it more often. Thanks anyway, it was good of you to take the time to reply.
