Missing DLL for Sound Forge Pro installer

craig-l wrote on 10/7/2025, 12:23 AM

I have messed up my instance of Sound Forge Pro 18. The app runs mostly OK, but there are some issues that I think are best fixed by re-installing the app. I have the installation file downloaded to the \Documents\MAGIX Downloads\Installationsmanager folder.

Issue: When I try to run this installation file, get message is Sound Forge Pro 18 is already installed and needs to be uninstalled first.

When I try to uninstall, I get the error message I've attached here. (missing DLL)

Windows 10 Pro 22H2. I9 processor. 32gb RAM. Sound Forge Pro 18.0 (build 21). Any suggestions?

@craig-l Try installing the Visual C++ Redistributables 2015-2022 from here:

https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/cpp/windows/latest-supported-vc-redist?view=msvc-170#visual-studio-2015-2022

After that, try to run the installer again.

I reinstalled the latest x86 & x64 Visual C++ redistr versions and rebooted, but it didn't help. Thanks for the suggestion. Any others?

@craig-l Maybe there is a problem with your Windows installation.

Try the following: To do this, open cmd.exe as administrator (it's best to enter cmd in the Windows search and then right-click the search result to start as administrator), type DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Restorehealth and press Enter.

Windows will now get an up-to-date restore image from the Microsoft servers.

If this is done type sfc /scannow and press Enter.

Windows will now check its system files and tries to repair them by using the new image.

See here for details:

Thank you. Already had done the stock system checks. Turned to Magix support, and as I was describing the issue, it suggested this site https://support.microsoft.com/de-de/topic/beheben-von-problemen-die-das-installieren-oder-entfernen-von-programmen-verhindern-cca7d1b6-65a9-3d98-426b-e9f927e1eb4d

In German (I think), but Firefox easily translated to English.

Run the troubleshooter..A list of apps i have installed came up and I selected Sound Forge. Then it asked if I want to install or uninstall. I selected the latter. After about 10 minutes, it said it was done; and indeed SF Pro was uninstalled.

I was able to easily reinstall the app, and the real beauty was, all my settings, screen layout, custom toolbar, and even recent files list were still there.

As many reasons as there are to complain about Microsoft, I have to tip my hat to how well Windows is programmed to be self-healing.

Not sure what that URL is in English, but it's a good site to tuck in the back pocket. Craig
