Movie Edit Por plus 17 playback is jumpy, slow and freezes

I have a video that is two minutes long, but Magix Movie Edit Pro Plus 17 will only play the first 5 seconds of the video, then proceed to play the rest of the audio very choppily to the end. It freezes, and it takes nearly the entire video for it to stop playing. I have changed my program settings to 1/4 after 1/2 didn't make any difference. My computer has barely any files on it and the videos are imported into my computer. It is nearly impossible for me to edit my video, seeing as I cannot watch more than 5 seconds before the whole thing freezes. It also won't allow me to make changes to my mp3 accompanying sound track, if I make any cuts to it it will play to the first cut and then immediately stop. I also can't copy paste, the audio box shows up but it won't play. There is nothing wrong with the parts that do play, and it is a regular mp3 file. I'm wondering if there's anything I can do to make my software run smoother, I bought this program seeing as it claimed to be faster and better then my old Pro 14 plus version, yet it can't handle two minutes of video while my old program had two hours of footage on it before it began to have problems. I don't mean to sound awful but this is just a real pain. My video files are mpg.

Hi

What is your computer specification and OS?

Are the videos hi definition AVCHD or H264 or standard definition?

John

Hi

Can you give us all your computers make and model, full specification including processor (Intel or AMD) and whether single, dual or quad core, graphics card make model, other software such as Antivirus and Anti spyware you have running and anything else you think could be relevant - too much is better than too little.

Thanks

John.

Same OS, same format, same problem.  I hope this has been improved in the new MEP 18.

I have the same problem.

2 months old Toshiba laptop, 4 GB RAM, AMD quad-core processor 1,8 GHZ, ATI Radeno HD 4200, Windows 7

I have tried to put all the playback properties on minimum, but still I can not play the video without chopping, so there is no way I can edit anything.

Could someone give any valuble answer, I would be really glad.
