Movie Edit Pro 18 Plus suggestions

gambo wrote on 7/10/2011, 3:36 AM

I would like to see a better slow motion speed control...I use Sony software for video editing and it is far better at slow motion and making the video very smooth during the slow motion playback.

I would also like to have a "time lapse" option in the effects where it makes the video stop and start at various rates. Would be great as an effect.

I agree with Gambo - that would be a very useful improvement. I tried to suggest the same some time ago, but I was not able to make my point clear due to my broken English.

Magiix has drooped the 18 from the name and has released Movie Edit Pro MX. It has been releases in the UK. You can go to the MAGIX web site to get a description of its features.

You can now use frame interpolation for slow motion effects. Sounds like this is what you were looking for.

Hi

Here is an example of a speed ramp on a single video clip.

However there is a gotcha - if you set the speed to zero at a keyframe, then add a second keyframe and set its speed to zero, ie to freeze frame for a few seconds, and then a third with eg 1x speed  - the whole clip disappears!!

I think this is a bug - It would appear you can only stop at a freeze frame, trying to start at a freeze frame results in a fade in and does not display the first frame for a set time!!

I also lose the little preview image in the video clip.

Can anyone else reproduce this?

I think this is a bug

The new speed effect can give some great results, but... The added frames are not what I'd call true 'intermediates' but rather cross fades. Being able to set key frame for smoother speed changes is a definite plus. Haven't tried zero speed -- I've been inserting a still image for freeze frames.

There is a greater problem which I've only just started exploring: When reducing the speed to say 0.25 the three new frames, from some sources, are a cross fade and two un-altered frames, rather that three cross fades of varying proportions -- 25/75 50/50 and 75/25.

True intermediates would likely be impossible to calculate (with any computer I can afford) for realtime preview, but I'd love to have that facility when rendering.

Regards,

Carl
