Multiple Instances of Sound Forge 18 from VEGAS Pro 22

Dear MAGIX Support Team,

I would like to report a compatibility issue between VEGAS Pro 22 and Sound Forge Pro 18.

【Issue Description】
When Sound Forge Pro 18 is launched as an external audio editor from VEGAS Pro 22, a new Sound Forge process is created every time, resulting in multiple instances running simultaneously.
This issue does not occur when using Sound Forge Pro 13 under the same environment.

Based on advice from the local distributor, we enabled the internal setting:
"Force Single Instance behavior = TRUE"
This prevents multiple instances from launching; however, it introduces a serious side effect:
all audio processes such as Volume and EQ lose their previous preset state and are reset every time a new file is opened.
This behavior significantly disrupts professional workflow.

【System Environment】

OS: Windows 11

VEGAS Pro 22

Sound Forge Pro 18

Official retail license (via SourceNext, Japan)

【Requests】

Please confirm whether this is a known issue.

Please advise whether an official fix is planned to allow Sound Forge Pro 18 to reuse an existing instance while preserving process and preset states.

Please advise whether there is any official workaround without the above side effects in the current version.

We rely on frequent round-trip editing between VEGAS and Sound Forge for professional production, and this issue is causing serious workflow problems.

Sincerely,

Comments

Welcome to the Magix user to user forums, NOT Magix Support.

So, please be aware there are NO Magix staff present here and you will not receive any sort of "official" response to your question, sorry. I would normally suggest you either raise a Support ticket, via the "Support" header on any forum page, or email infoservice@magix.net. BUT, there seems to be a problem that users, including myself, are not receiving any kind of response when either sending to that email address or creating a Support Ticket.

You might also wish to post your question to the dedicated Vegas Pro forum, which is here.

Hi

The multiple instances would suggest that Sound Forge, by default, is reopening previous projects/files, thus the multiple instances as you are seeing.

Under the Options menu, select Preferences, General tab and uncheck the option Open default workspace on startup.

SF will then open with a blank workspace and one instance.
