No sound

I am trying to record from old VHS tapes from a VHS recorder to computor

I have a number of Magix programmes and have managed to do this in the past when I had a different computor running XP. The new computor has Windows 7 64 bit.

I did purchase the latest version of Movie edit pro and this is installed along with Movies on DVD 7.

I have a transfer from VHS recorder to USB adapter bought from Magix also with rescue your video tapes a few years ago. But although I have the adapter I can not find any programme software to go with this.

Using the VHS to USB on my computor I can view and record the picture using Movies on DVD7 but can not record or hear any sound. Using the Mov ed proMX v18 I can do the same but still no sound. There does not seem to be an option in the audio option drop down menu other than do not record sound or mic input and the mic input just picks up the surounding noise in the room.

Suspect it might be the driver for the USB device. Is there an update available please.

I can not record the sound from my VHS player when using mov ed pro (latest version) or in Movies on DVD7 which I have had for a while but only used on my older computor which had XP installed.

Hi

The problem is likely to be because Windows does not have the USB device set as a recording device.

Open Control Panel, Sound. On the Recording tab (see image) you should see the USB device.  Right click a blank part of the central area and select show disabled devices and disconnected devices to see if it is there.

If it is not there then you may have a driver problem.  Try looking here for the latest driver.

Hi and thank you for taking the time to help.

I looked at the drivers I had installed as suggested and it wasnt listed. So I installed it from the suggested dite. The 64bit driver for the old black unit.

On trying again I got error message saying driver not installed correctly.  It does partially install but when looking at the explanation for why it hasnt installed correctly it has  not installed the sound part of the driver. I guess this is the problem I was having originally as well.

Having now looked for a new USB device to replace the one I have I see a lot of them do not work on windows 7 only a few seem to be compatable with 7 64bit. I now suspect that the USB device which is about 3 years old just isnt compatable and I will look at getting a replacement.

Appreciate your help. Thanks Phil
