Object Color

I'm working on a travelogue/documentary with a LOT of objects (video, photos, soundscape, effects, audio, etc..). I've noticed that many video editors allow you to color code your objects for easy reference when viewing your screen/timeline. This would be very helpful for my project. I noticed that if I click on the object's "Properties" there is an option for "Object Color" - but it doesn't do what what I hoped, unless I'm missing something (?). I can color code the "tracks", but not the objects.

I'm working with Movie Studio 2024 Platinum. Is there a way to do this in Movie Maker? (Or outboard?)

System-wise: I have an older HP desktop - 64 bit - Intel (R) Core (TM) i5-2400 CPU, with 8GB RAM - standard Intel HD Graphix Card.

Thanks in advance for any help / suggestions. Harry D.

Hi Harry,

Right-click on the object, Object color (near the bottom), select a standard colour from the fly-out list.

The Object Properties allows more colours, that is all.

You can also set track colours using the dropdown in the track header.

Hi

Assuming you want to mark specific objects so they stand out for further attention, then proceed as @browj2 has commented.

To see the colours, the objects must be deselected, then they appear as shown below, I have changed the colour of the 2 circled objects.

The default settings are:

  • Blue - video and images
  • Green - audio both connected to the video clip or separate audio objects
  • Deep red - Titles

Oh wow! I guess I never deselected the object. Thank you so much John (and John). This helps a lot.
