[Apparently I cannot correct a Topic title.]
Bit of a longshot, but ... anyone using Excel with hyperlinks to MP4 files please?
Using Tools > Folder Options from an XP Explorer window I can associate MP4 video files with various programs. Such as Windows Media Player, Media Player Classic, VLC, etc. D-clicking or using Open With then plays these video files.
But in Excel 2000 when I then try to open a hyperlink to such a file, I get the unhelpful message "An unexpected error has occurred."
So far this seems to be confined to MP4 types. MPG work OK. I wonder if MP4s are perhaps outside Excel 2000's scope for some reason?
Any particular syntax or special parameters I could experiment with in the File Types dialog to fix this? Currently I have MP4 associated with VLC, but I've tried WMP and Media Player Classic, with same problem.

For anyone curious about the application, I have a large spreadsheet with details of all my finished DVDs. As well as obvious descriptive data, hyperlinks in various columns give me quick access to the DVD, the menu, the DVD cover, etc. Since I started using a WD TV Media Player to play files wirelessly on my TV from the PC upstairs I've been writing MP4 files in MEP as well, to secure higher quality on my TV. So I'm adding hyperlinks to these on the spreadsheet.
