Playback whilst streaming

How can one get an MP4 to start playing whilst the download is still streaming over the web ?

I have files produced by Camtasia and Magix Movie Edit Pro using the same JW flash player configured in the same way. The former will start playback - whilst the Movie Edit Pro files don't playback until the whole file has streamed down.

This doesn't seem right...

Can anyone suggest a fix ?

Thanks

I've begun to answer my own question...but if someone really understands the settings and can explain that would be great.

Select advanced and advanced multiplexer settings

Change the Atom Reordering Default ( MDAT before MOOV ) to MOOV before MDAT... This change puts the configuration data of the MPEG4 before the raw data.

Then save the whole lot either as a user defined setting...

The playback then started immediately - whilst the streaming was still continuing - however I've no idea how to put in a short delay ( e.g. 3 secs ) and what all the settings mean - including those that appear as advanced video settings, once this change is made.

Thanks

Dear vernonr,

if you want to export your videoclip as mp4/ h.264 video it is a good start to pick a preset as similar as possible according to your needs - this might be e.g. "FlashPlayer 720x576 H.264 25 FPS" if you're working in PAL format. Now change the resolution of your videoclip and, if neceassary, adjust the framerate and bitrate. If you want to use the JWPlayer, you can also deactivate the option "Export as webpage".

If you're changing your export settings based on a preset that was not thought for online usage you might experience that playback can't be streamed and will start only when the whole file has been downloaded. So it is a good idea to start with the FlashPlayer presets and tweak those presets to your contentment.

Kind regards,
