Regarding song collections

Regarding VideoDeluxe 2027 and probably VideoPro X18 and Song Collections:

You may notice that some previously installed song collections just do not appear under the audio tab. One example for me is 'Dream and Relax'. After going through a few rounds of ai and trying everything that appears on Magix's website and ai response from Magix support: the reading mechanism in these two updated apps is different and they will not appear. Also downloading store content under the help tab will not work either. This is what internet ai finally came up with.

1) Download missing song collections from Producer Planet and extract them.

2) Go to a previous magix app that does display those collections. I used Videopro X17.

3) Place one of the ogg files on the timeline and right-click properties. Note the file path of that file.

4) Go back into VideoDeluxe 2027 and/or Videopro X18.

5) From the import tab find your way to the file path you found in step 3.

6) Copy the extracted song collections to that import tab then create a link to that folder.

HI Barry

I have compared the Sound Collections I have with those recognised by VPX 18, and I am finding that what appeared to be missing Collections are actually in VPX 18, however they are not always in the categories named after the Collection, eg components of the Classic Film Music collection appear under several different categories, the complete collection appears under Classic Film Music, as it should, however one or more individual components appear under other categories as well.

. . . . Place one of the ogg files on the timeline and right-click properties. Note the file path of that file. . . .

On my system the file paths given are pointing towards the AudioTemp folder, with the Magix audio files it only contains .HDP files, these are temporary support files which contain no audio.

Tracing back the real location for the Magix installed audio files, they are, on my system, in the folder and subfolders of:

C:\Users\Public\Documents\MAGIX\Common\Videocontent\video editor name\ShopManager\

Within those folders are all the Sound loops and collections, as well as other Magix content. VPX and VDL have their own Shop Manager folders.

. . . . From the import tab find your way to the file path you found in step 3. . . . Copy the extracted song collections to that import tab then create a link to that folder. . . . .

I do not recommend putting the unzipped collection files in the AudioTemp folder, see note below.

I personally use a 'Resources' folder within the Documents/Magix, DVD/BD projects folder, all my audio, images etc are in unique folders/subfolders for the resource types, this is a small section of that Resource folder.

Note: For 3rd party audio files, from any folder on your system, they will be copied into the Audio Temp folder. Over time this folder can become very large, eating up disc space, I empty mine on completion of a project. If I go back to that project at a later time, the temporary files will be recreated, or copied again, provided the originals are still in the same location.

John,

Thanks for the reply. I wish I had 1/10 the knowledge you have.

I have moved my song collection folders out of the audio temp into slideshow music folder and created a link. I am not sure that is what you were getting at.

Beyond my lack of knowledge about all this I am bothered by the fact now that song collections now appear in three different places: 1) Audio tab (song collections), 2) Templates > Themepacks > Ultimate Audio Content Package, and 3) the link I setup in the slideshow music with the 'missing song collections'.

Now I wonder: were they really missing or just moved and spreadout to different locations.

I suspect in previous versions of video pro x and video deluxe I was not aware of all these 'links'. Going back into VideoProX 17 the Audio tab contains 'the missing' song collections not shown in Videodeluxe 2027 (but was shown in Videodeluxe 2026 and earlier versions).

I guess what I am saying I wish all the music was available under one source (preferably under the audio tab and song collections.

Thanks, Barry

Hi Barry

. . . . I am not sure that is what you were getting at. . . . .

A precautionary measure against automatic deletion,

A quick test of the Cleanup Wizard in VPX 18, which analyses all project (MVP) files, in the folder searched, for dependencies, suggests that anything not used in a project will be added to the clean-up list, this includes unused media files in the folder(s) searched, however they are not selected for deletion, the auto save backup files, with BAK in the file name are automatically selected. It appears to not include searching the AudioTemp folder ???

If you have a lot of projects in the folder searched, the scan can take a long while!

When I see a software created folder with 'temp' as part of the name I treat whatever goes in there as being temporary and could be lost without warning.

. . . . Now I wonder: were they really missing or just moved and spreadout to different locations. . . .

They appear to be spread around, possibly due to upgrading from version to version over the years and the collection contents being re-classified/re-hashed over those years.

John EB,

Thanks for the reply. The only items I deleted from the audio temp folder were the music items that I downloaded from producer planet and copied to that location, because I could not find them where they were previously.

You stated regarding the 'missing' music files: "They appear to be spread around, possibly due to upgrading from version to version over the years and the collection contents being re-classified/re-hashed over those years."

Perhaps I just did not notice this previously but it certainly has become more apparent to me with this version of VD.

Right now I am kind of putting Video Deluxe 2027 through it's paces. I am discovering crashes (which I still have to narrow down as to cause, it may be one of my files) and one window that, under 'right' circumstances, cannot be closed thus blocking further use (editing) in the app. Only using the task manager to shut down VD2027 allows the user to get back to the editing. I will probably post this in another thread, but I have reproduced this several times.

Thanks: Barry

I tried to reply yesterday but it seems that longer replies are still causing a 403 error. So, I'll do this in smaller parts, editing to get the whole.

@bjtap

Hi Barry,

We discussed some of this in this thread (one of my replies).

Here is part of what I said along with some questions:

The music and SF purchased in the Store shows up under the Audio tab as mxcogg files, but all these should also be available in your account on Producer Planet for download as OGG or WAV files, usually both are offered.

The problem is, then what? These are zipped so I unzip them to a location where I keep miscellaneous audio files, under a subfolder - ShopManagerOGGs, for want of originality. I linked the main location in the Import tab list in VPX.

Going OT here but.... However, the Audio tab is more convenient and I usually just import song or sfx from there. This can cause a problem if I start up the project containing an mxcogg file the first time I open VPX for the day. The program has not yet called home to say that I can use these and it stalls on can't find the file. Even navigating to it stalls the program and I have to skip everything, and reload the project - without saving or I lose the song. I usually just go to new project, check that the Audio tab is populated, then open my project.

I thought of just replacing the mxcogg files with the wav or ogg files, but doing that is extremely time-consuming. Take a look at how the songs are stored in the Shop Manager.

Edit: I have 1069 mxcogg files in the Audio tab (Shop Manager folder).

Has anyone come up with an easy solution for replacing the mxcogg files with the ogg/wav files?

The folders all have icon images. Is there any way to find those icons to use them with the folders for the same song folder elsewhere?

To add to that, you mention that you have both VPX and VDL and have obtained audio files from the Store. Keep in mind that VPX and VDL have separate folders for the ShopManager which contains the downloaded audio files in the proprietary and protected mxcogg format.

C:\Users\Public\Documents\MAGIX\Common\Videocontent\Video Pro X\ShopManager\

C:\Users\Public\Documents\MAGIX\Common\Videocontent\Movie Edit Pro Plus\ShopManager\

where Movie Edit Pro Plus may be Video Deluxe or Movie Studio depending on what and when the program was first purchased after Magix started using the Videocontent folders.

As you probably noticed, if you purchased an audio album from the Store in one program, say VPX, then switched to VDL and go to the Audio tab, you'll see the download arrow on that album(s), as shown below in VDL:

In VPX, where I first downloaded the albums, I see:

For the song selected, "A Matter of Life and Nature," if I search for the filename, "A Matter Of Life And Nature_225EECF9_normal.mxcogg" I find it in two places, that is, duplicate files under the above Videocontent folders, once for VPX and once for VDL. Keep in mind that mxcogg files are protected and can only be used in Magix video editors, including Photostory.

So, downloading the albums from the Audio tab for more than one program gives duplicate files and uses up hard drive space. Add to that downloaded files from Producer Planet in ogg or wav format, and you get another file, "A Matter Of Life And Nature.ogg." Now you have 3 files for the song.

In my case, I have a folder (Misc_Music_SFX) containing miscellaneous downloaded audio files from various sources, under subfolders and sometimes sub-subfolders. I have a link to this main folder and for the files downloaded from Producer Planet in the Import tab. I called this one "ShopManagerOGGs" so that I know that they correspond to files that are also under the Audio tab.

Thus, I can use an mxcogg file from the Audio tab or its unprotected ogg from my other folder, if I have downloaded it.

Complicated?

Going back to the use of the AudioTemp folder that is probably under:

C:\Documents\MAGIX\Video Pro X\AudioTemp

you will also have an AudioTemp folder for VDL. You should never put anything in this folder. It is used by Magix for the temp files that it creates and that can be deleted without causing any damage.

Here is a test that I did. I created a project in VDL2026, imported from the Audio tab the song "A Matter of Life and Nature," saved the project, closed it, then opened that project in VPX17. The audio file is on the timeline, but if I check under Audio under Dream and Relax, the file is not shown as being on the timeline, that is, the red light is not on in the Audio tab.

Checking the properties, I see that the file or temp file is actually in the VDL AudioTemp folder. This also means that the copy of the mxcogg file used is the one under the VDL Shopmanager folder, not VPX Shopmanager folder.

If you start mixing these audio files by doing a project in one program then opening the project in another, you can potentially create a bit of a mess. However, if you use the audio downloaded from Producer Planet, then both programs will use the same file, but the temp folder will always be the one connected to the program.

Unfortunately, Magix did not think this through. It would have be better to have the Shopmanager folder and its files directly under ...Videocontent, or something like that, and not under each of the programs. This would have avoided having downloads of the same files for each program. The audio files would have shown up under any and all flavours of Magix editors.

Note that even Plus and Premium have separate folders, adding to the complication, because you may purchase a Plus version, then later a Premium version. You would have to download the audio files for Premium and end up with another copy of the mxcogg files. If you start a project in Plus and use an mxcogg file, and then complete the project in Premium, you would be using the mxcogg file from Plus and not Premium. If, at some point, you uninstalled the Plus version and then deleted the corresponding Videocontent folders, opening a project in Premium that was started in Plus would cause the file not found issue. You would have to navigate to the correct folder under Premium; good luck with that. Check the cryptic folder names.

Hope I haven't confused you too much.
