Resizing the Effects window

hdrechsel18 wrote on 10/28/2026, 8:32 AM

There are times when I have to apply an effect (usually EQ or Reverb) across an entire track. As an example: I have a track for narration in a documentary project I am working, that I would like to EQ a bit. The problem is - when I open the EQ window (from the mixer EFFECTS tab), it comes up as full size and does not allow me to resize it. I have to make my adjustments, and close the window in order to hear what affect my adjustments have made. Of course I would like to hear what changes I am making as the track plays - but I can't access the transport with the effects window open. This is even more critical when I'm working with Reverb, having to bounce back and forth between windows in order to fine tune the effect.

It would be nice if I could save my settings as a User Preset, but I haven't found a way of doing that (is there a way?).

I am using Movie Studio 2024 Platinum. I have looked around (the program), but haven't come up with a solution - why I wouldn't be able to resize a window (and it's the only one). On a small project it's a nuisance at worst, but my current project is very large and this gets in the way. Any help/suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Harry,

You should be able to drag the Track Effects window out of the way but you can't resize it.

To play back, use the spacebar, not the transport controls. If you want just a range to playback, set the range and use the shortcut for range playback: é or change the shortcut to something else.

I can't find a way to save a Magix built-in audio effect as a preset, either in the clip Audio cleaning interface or in the mixer FX. The exception is Audio Cleaning Noise Reduction where one can save a noise sample (I don't use this as third party noise reduction products, like Accusonus, are much better). Would be nice to have for most users. I use third party effects mostly and can usually save my settings as a preset with those.

One thing that you can try is to make template projects that include your audio effects settings in the mixer. Start a new project by opening the template project then save as with a proper project name. You effects with settings are now already done in the mixer. Now that I mention this, I should do this with my template projects as I have some mixer effects that I almost always use, including YouLean Loudness Meter on some of the tracks and always on the master as I always want to check the loudness; this would save me having to load the VST on each project.

Thanks John. Yes, I can move the effect window out of the way and use the spacebar. I just wanted to make sure it wasn't an issue with my program/system.

Below is a screenshot of one chapter in my film (there are about two dozen "chapters" in my film). Track SIX is my narrative after editing, so you can see why the track effect (usually EQ) is often necessary. Although (I believe) I did a pretty good job recording my voice (quality), the number of mistakes and unwanted noises forces me to do a LOT of post editing lol.

Thanks again. I like your template idea. I'll have to play with that.

Hi

I can't find a way to save a Magix built-in audio effect as a preset

You can, however they appear where you would not expect them and the application is different.

Using EQ as an example,

Apply the effect to an audio object and adjust to your needs. Note: you can add multiple audio effects if required eg EQ and reverb

Right click the audio object, select Audio effects, Save audio effects - the effect a meaningful name.

The effects appear as 'presets' in the Effects, Audio Presets pane - see image below.

Hi John EB,

Good one! Unfortunately, one can only use and save the built-in Audio Cleaning effects plus any other effects that are applied to the clip. Third party VST effects cannot be applied to individual audio clips as far as I can find. This capability would be a huge improvement as would VST3 capability for individual audio clips and FX in the Mixer.

@hdrechsel18

Harry, there is another trick that you can do but it still involves template projects. In the Mixer, turn on the auxiliary FX strips by moving the sliders near the top and then moving them back to the left. Then, open the first Aux FX strip, turn off the reverb which is on by default, add any effects that you want, including VST2 effects. The second Aux FX allows you to have a different set of effects. Save your template project.

You can now use these 2 Aux FX strips either from individual clips or from the Mixer. For individual clip, select the clip on the timeline, go to Effects, Audio effects, General, and use the AUX1 and AUX2 sliders to apply the audio effects of the 2 Aux FX strips from the Mixer. For the tracks, use the Mixer, and adjust the sliders at the top of the track strip to apply the Aux FX strip effects.
