Restore color to underwater scene.

Hi all, have a few clips a friend of mine filmed using a gopro underwtare camera in egpyt.

The scenes are crystal clear (used the new flat housing ) and wondered if there was anyway to restore the colour from the slightly greeny blue that often comes with underwater videoography.

Have used the auto coreect colour tool but wondered if there was anything else that can be used to enhance the quality of the colour..

cheers in advance  for any answers

Hi,

I find that the "Auto Correct" rarely works well unless the changes you wish to make are very subtle.  Changes to underwater photography need to be more dramatic if you wish to recreate more life like colors.  Have a look at my YouTube video on color correction in Movie Edit Pro

If you only want to change specific colors, watch this video as well.

If you still have questions, feel free to ask,

George

Hi

George is correct - the Auto correct can only work well where there is a reasonable balance of colours to work with.

Underwater work loses significant quantities of red through orange to yellow and the deeper you.

Georges examples are the way to go, however do not expect signigficant improvement when there is very little red available to work with in the video.

Sometimes a decent colour balance can be restored by using Brightness, Contrast and  Gamma adjustments -  these single frame grabs from a video in MEP are an example of poor colours as shot and after Brightness/Contrast adjustment.

Hi,

You cannot ask a consumer program to deliver the same tools than high end programs because the function play on all range of colors. Changing brightness affect all colors and pixels, moving the pixel color to less or more. Naturally if you have a dark video rising the brightness can change evaluation from poor to acceptable scene. But if you want to change the red color to something more bright or neon (fluo color) you need professional tools. If you have budget visit a video studio having the staff and software to work.
