same error message for dragging a video clip onto the timeline

I am using DVD 7. I have just bought a new pc and installed the magix dvd 7 with no problems until i try to upload videos from a sd card. I can do this on my older pc but not on my new one so wondered if i need to install something on my new pc. Just cant figure it out. can anyone give a answer to my problem. Only got until a week saturday to show my dvd.

The message i get when i drag a video clip is as follows

s1040090.mp4 cannot be read by magix movies on dvd!

please make sure that the drive is not full or write- protected

if you do not have authorization to write or read from this path, please contact the administrator

Well i paid and activated the mp4 codec. It still said the same message and sometimes it comes up as just

Error#7744

Really dont know what to do

also changed folders and tried to upload from the sd card direct. it plays in windows media player and quicktime but not on magix dvd7. Just find it strange it worked on my old pc

Does new PC also mean you are using Windows 8?

I suspect this is a permissions problem in that Movies on DVD cannot write its temporary files to the SD card - if so this is not a fault of the software but Windows security causing the problem.

It is bad practice to import media direct from any removable storage device eg memory cards, USB memory sticks etc. - open the project without the storage device inserted and the software will complain.

Try copying the files from the SD card to a folder, created on the PC, which is inside your projects folder, then import them from there into Movies on DVD.

No i opted out of windows 8 and have windows 7.

No i copy from sd card to my video folder then try and drag the clip from the video folder to the timeline but keep getting the same message. I paid and activated the codec so im really lost what to do next. is there something on my pc thats causing the problem?

Great that rules out some more obscure worarounds.

Are you comfortable setting permissions on folders?

If so then right click your video folder, select Properties.

On the Security tab make a note of the users and permissions on the folder.

If the user Everyone is not there, add it, and set the permissions to Full control and apply.

Then try importing the video again.

If that fails post the folder users and permissions for us to look at.

In Movies on DVD look at the programs settings and see where the Project folder is - it will probably start C:\Users\Phil\. . . . .

Open Windows Explorer and navigate to the folder location from above - it will probably be C:\Users\Phil\.....

an example of how to get is below - yours will be different, however once you get to the folder where the propertProjects video is stored then right click and select Properties to get the dialog box (5) .

On the security tab you should then see the security settings then change them as I previously posted
