In File > Movie settings you can change the settings to the same resolution, aspect ratio, and frame rate as your source.  If playback is still choppy, go to File > Program settings and try changing the resolution to 1/2 or 1/4.

I made the suggested changes and  even tried other resolutions and combined with changing the program resolution to 1/2 and 1/4 and am still having the same problem.  Any other ideas?

It looks like you are creating a standard DVD from HD material.

If you only require standard DVD 16:9 or 4:3  you can run the batch conversion within MEP to convert all the video to a lower resolution, save them in a seperate folder and use the highest bitrate and quality settings - this will create copies of the video at lower resolution so you don't lose your HD material..

Note for 16:9 material in a 4:3 video you will get the 'letterbox' with black bars above and below the video, unless you severely crop the video clips on the timeline.  If you intend to crop 16:9 o fit 4:3 then I would recommend you continue to use the HD video as you will effectively be zooming in a a portion of the video.

For HD video you do need a reasonably powerful quad core computer with plenty of RAM
