This question is in reference to the following link where I am asked to upgrade my existing MEP Premium 18 to MEP 2013. Well does upfrade mean to purchase or do we have an online mechanism where we can upgrade (like update)?
The difference between upgrade and update is like go to store and buy a new coat or enter to the clothes cleaner to wash or clean your coat.
When you change version level you have to pay about 60% of the new version price. As example the version cost $99 you have a MEP17 and want the 2014 version normally you pay about $59. Now most of the time, to push on customer head the first release the compagnies offer and additional discount of 40% this give $39.
The current version of MEP is 2014. Watch for the special deals that Magix offers. So far as I have seen, there are no real upgrades. What you get is a full-fledged version. The previous version remains on your computer untouched.
Here is the answer in Magix FAQ for upgrades:
"As an owner of a previous version of Magix software you may be able to receive a discount off the new version. Please send a request to sales from this page of give them a call to see if this program is eligable.
You can call sales at 305 722 5810"
You can try that, but you probably cannot do better than one of their special sales. As for MEP2014, some people are not satisfied with the speed of exporting and burning, amongst other quirks. I am using it and have found a few differences, but nothing serious. I have had a problem with burning a large project on DVD, but found a workaround.
It's your choice if and when you want to migrate (upgrade) to a more recent version.
