Upgrading from Video Deluxe to Pro X18

Willig wrote on 10/28/2026, 5:37 AM

Good day,

At the moment, I am considering upgrading from Video Deluxe to Pro X18.

Since I know Deluxe very well and have many add-ons, I would like to continue using it for smaller projects.

My question is: If I switch to Pro, will the Deluxe license and its add-on programs still be valid? Are there any restrictions?

Thank you very much for your feedback.

With best regards,
Guido Willi

@Willig I'm not sure if you can upgrade from Deluxe to Pro. Have you tried it? Usually, you get a message that you're not eligible for an upgrade if you don't already have an earlier version of Video Pro X registered to your account.

Besides that, yes, your license for Video Deluxe stays valid. An upgrade sold by Magix is just a full version with a price reduction. Licenses for addons which are bound to Video Deluxe might not work in Video Pro X.

Thank you for the quick reply. Over the next 30 days, it is possible to upgrade from Video Deluxe 2027 Ultimate to Pro X18. It's important for me to keep using Deluxe for simpler projects. Since the menu structure looks similar, I have decided to go ahead with the upgrade. Thanks again for the information.

@Willig

Hi,

As far as I know, you should be able to upgrade to VPX from Video Deluxe. You can always try it. It is the same program with more and better features - you still have all features of VDL. You will not want to use Video Deluxe after using VPX for a while. All of your VDL projects will open in VPX.

Any effects that you have with VDL will show up in VPX. Any Audio that you purchased or other stuff from Magix Store will also show up but you may have to download it again using the download button that shows up wherever there is the possibility. Thus, whatever you got with VDL Ultimate will also be available with VPX (and vice versa).

Any templates that you may have made, like for titles, will have to be copied over to the same location but under

C:\Users\Public\Documents\MAGIX\Common\Videocontent\Video Pro X

In VPX, there is a Window arrangement setting called "minimum" which replicates the window arrangement of VDL if you don't want to see the Source Monitor and the Project Temp Folder. Of course, like in VDL, you can modify the window arrangements and save them to be recalled instantly with the shortcuts F10, F11, and F12 or by opening Window from the top menu and selecting the arrangement that you want. I have a half dozen different arrangments.

Hello,
Thank you for your feedback and help to get started with Pro X.

After downloading, installing, and spending some time with the software, I agree with your comment that there is no reason to go back to the Deluxe version. The familiar and flexible menu structure, combined with the additional powerful features, makes Pro X a significant step forward.

Thank you again for your valuable advice.

Best regards,
Guido
