When I play a video clip from a DXG-5 B6V vtdeo camera from my hard drive in media player the clip plays perfectly synched video and audio. When I import that same clip into MEP17 plus, the audio track is no longer synched. The video clip is H.264 (AVI). (1280 X 720, 30fps 44.1 16 bit)

Which version of MEP are you using and is it patched to the latest available for that version?
If it is not patched then please do so - you can find the latest patch for your version here

Is your project settings the same as the source video (resolution, bit-rate, etc.)?
Also check that you use the exact frame rate as the original. Sometimes the camera specs say it is 30fps but in actual fact it is 29.97fps and vice versa. Check the camera original clip on your hard drive with "Media Info" - a free downloadable tool.
The frame rate of the project is in File > Settings > Movie settings and I see that there is not a 30fps option but you could try entering that manually in the Frame/s box.
You could also try, after importing the clip into MEP, Rt. clicking the video track in the timeline and "Create New Frametable". This sometimes helps sync issues (and sometimes creates issues........).

After a little digging it would appear that you cameras video file format is actually a MOV file inside the AVI which is actually a container file format and can contain any video/audio codecs.
Is your Quicktime installation up to date? MEP will use this to decode the movie.
