Video Deluxe 2026 - Phamtom Audio in movie playback

John-Cianciolo wrote on 6/14/2026, 1:26 PM

I have a problem where audit is playing where there is no track for it make it appear like a 'phamtom audio'. There is no audio tied to the track, and in fact I moved all tracks to the right to have nothing at the playback mark and yet the audio continues to come through. I've looked at all tracks and nothng is there. I have tried exporting the movie and creating a new project to no avail. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated!

Hi

If you can identify the track that the 'phantom audio' is on, it will be a paler grey as indicated by the yellow arrow in the image below and there appears to be nothing on the track, delete it using the option indicated by the magenta arrow. You may get a warning message that the track contains media.

. . . . I have tried exporting the movie and creating a new project to no avail. . . .

How did you do this?

if you exported as a video file then the audio will be embedded in it with the rest of the audio.

Thank you John. I did manage to solve it by locating which track the phantom audio was on (track 1) which occurred at a particular time. I added a new track below that and then moved all tracks to that. Once track 1 had nothing on it I deleted it. That solved the problem but it took time to move the tracks down to the new track. I hope this never happens again but will keep your suggestion handy.

Exporting the movie was something Gemini prompted me. File > Manage Project > Export Movie. This saves it as a .MVD extension. After that, start a fresh new project. When that's open, go back to "File," click "Import movie," and then select the file you just saved. This brings your work into the new project and should have cleared up any audio quirks - this was not the case.

Appreciate the quick reply.

Hi John

Thanks for the feedback.

. . . . Exporting the movie was something Gemini prompted me. File > Manage Project > Export Movie . . . .

This would not fix the phantom issue, a MVP project file contains some of the program's data, as well as the actual editting data, eg. the media files used, cuts, effects etc applied to them.

Exporting as a MVD file removes the program data which are saved in the MVP project file, useful for when the program data saved get corrupted, or, you transfer the project to another computer, which has different hardware and VideoDeluxe or Video Pro X installed.

Yep, more Gemini AI slop... I'm actually surprised it knew anything about MVDs, as they're not used much these days with multi-movie projects.
