Video Deluxe 2026 Premium - Activating the AC3 5.1 Codec and Other Opt

sicreetservis1410 wrote on 3/26/2026, 1:04 PM

Hello, some time ago I purchased this program, but it doesn't allow me to export Dolby Digital 5.1 audio from 6 independent WAV files.

There simply isn't an option to export a file with this track during export.

I think I need to activate it somewhere, but I can't figure it out, so I'm asking for help on how to do it.

I also received the keys for the options listed below and would also appreciate instructions on how to activate them.

I would be grateful for any help in resolving the problem described above. Best regards.

Hi.

Dolby Labs had this function taken out of all video editors a few years back over licence fee disagreements and if you are running on Windows 11, surround sound has also now been disabled in the operating system. It is still possible to mix down and export to a 5.1 format if you use a wmv export format but you may not be able to hear the rear channels. I'm not overly confident on my last bit of information as it has been a while since I did any 5.1 surround sound mixing or listening via the PC.

I suggest a Google search or similar for further information.

Ray.

Hi

. . . . doesn't allow me to export Dolby Digital 5.1 audio . . . .

In addition to @CubeAce comment re using Windows Media (WMV) file format, the AVCHD file export also supports surround sound, when VDL is set up correctly in the Mixer and AVCHD export dialog, see images below

However you do have another issue:

. . . . from 6 independent WAV files . . . .

Assuming that these 'independent' WAV files are mono, this will not work. You must have three audio streams with 2 channels each audio stream having 2 channels.

The stream/channel allocations are:

  • Stream 1 - Channels 1/2: L- R
  • Stream 2 - Channels 3/4: C-LFE
  • Stream 3 - Channels 5/6: Ls – Rs

if you have an audio editor such as Audacity, which can export 6 channel surround sound, you can create Surround Sound file(s) from the six WAV files allocated as above and utile this/them in VDL.

@CubeAce

. . . . Windows 11, surround sound has also now been disabled in the operating system . . . .

The AC3 decoder has been removed from Window 11 for another Dolby product, which of course has to be paid for.

Windows 11 does support surround sound 5.1, if you have an AC-3 decoders installed, eg from third party codec packs, and the audio device must support it.

Hi John.

I wasn't aware of these options but can confirm your findings.

The only problem I had was with the central and base configuration within the mixer. I seemed to only get a single channel come up in the mixer for positioning on a stereo wav sound track. As I have not currently a surround sound output to my speakers I can't verify which channel is going where.

Ray.

HI Ray

. . . . Central and base configuration within the mix. . . a single channel come up in the mixer . . . .

That is correct, they are a 'non-directional' channel, often reduced to a mono track, where 'stereo' the 2 channels are the same. Our ears/brain are bad at spatial direction of low frequencies, particularly in the subsonic frequencies. The LFE which can go as low as 3 - 5 Hz.

The films 2001: A Space Odyssey, and Earthquake, used the LFE to good effect.
